Classification: Academic Level B Salary package: $121,598 - $137,870 per annum plus 17% superannuation Terms: Full Time, Fixed term (up to 24 months) Position Description and Selection Criteria: Research Fellow Work with world leading researcher in computer vision and machine learning Contribute to impactful research on real-world problems in 3D shape design Collaborate with international researchers at ANU, Australia and EPFL, Switzerland About the opportunity The Research Fellow will contribute to the ARC Discover Project, "Differentiable Optimisation for Constrained Three-dimensional Shape Design." The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Prof Stephen Gould and Dr Dylan Campbell to develop novel techniques for designing constrained 3D shapes, such as airfoils, using a framework of differentiable optimisation. The project involved collaboration with researchers at EPFL, Switzerland and may involve travel to meet with the research team there. It is expected that research leads to high impact outcomes including publications in top-tier venues and open-source software. Successful candidates will also work along side PhD students working on related problems in computer vision and machine learning, and contribute to their development. A strong background in numerical optimisation, deep learning and computer vision is required. About ASARI The African Sustainable Agriculture Research Institute (ASARI) launched by UM6P in Laayoune in 2020 within the Foum Eloued technopole project focuses on several research and development programs including biosaline agriculture, native species valorisation, camel value chain, water and renewable energy. The institute consists of a multidisciplinary team of agronomists, biochemists, molecular biologists, bioprocess specialists, animal scientist, etc to respond to regional challenges affecting marginal environments. Job Summary The postdoc will conduct research, prepare proposals, write reports and scientific papers to study the botany and ecology of native desert plant species of south of Morocco as well as their interaction of their ecosystems including the soil. The successful candidate will conduct field expeditions to collect plant and soil samples, characterize vegetation and their habitats as well as identifying plant species. Job Responsibilities Responsibilities will include but not limited to: Develop clear and strong methodology according to high standards in the field of plant ecology and botany. Conduct botanical expeditions to characterize native plant species of south of Morocco. Collect plant and soil samples and study interactives synergies between native species and their ecosystems.
