Bakircay University

Named for the fertile valley in western Turkey in which it is based, Bakırçay University was founded in 2016. Its campus is in the city of Izmir, on the Aegean coast: Turkey’s third most populous city. The campus is therefore about half an hour’s drive from the beach.
Originally founded with five faculties, today the number has grown to seven: pharmacy; law; economic and administrative sciences; humanities and social sciences; engineering and architecture; health sciences; and medicine. The university aims for all degree programmes to include an applied element, beginning with elective internships.
The university publishes two academic journals: a biannual law journal and the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Theory and Applications, which looks at AI and its subdisciplines.
While there is no on-campus student accommodation, government-run dormitories are available nearby. Most rooms are shared, with between four and eight students per room. The dormitories provide internet, laundry and 24-hour security. They also offer meal services – though the university prides itself on providing lunch for students at the campus cafeteria. Private cafés also operate on campus.
Student clubs and societies fall into one of five categories: technology and innovation; professional and academic; health and sciences; social and humanities; and arts, culture and sport. In addition, an Erasmus student society runs workshops, city tours, volunteer projects and cultural events, to help international students integrate into local life and culture.
