Your area of responsibility As a postdoctoral university assistant (40 hours, full-time), you will work in research, teaching and administration at the Department of Near Eastern Studies of the University of Vienna. As a center for the study of the Near and Middle East, including North Africa, the Department of Near Eastern Studies at the University of Vienna is not only the only institution of its kind in Austria, but also one of the largest such centers in Central Europe. Our research and teaching focuses on Ancient Near Eastern Studies, Arabic and Islamic Studies, as well as Turkish and Ottoman Studies. Your responsibilities will include supporting the Chair of Cultural and Intellectual History of the Islamic World in research and teaching, including student supervision and participation in administrative duties at the department. You will be expected to teach independently and to establish and develop an independent research profile in the field of cultural and intellectual history of the Islamic world. Your future tasks: You will actively participate in research, teaching and departmental administration. This means: Supporting the Chair in Cultural and Intellectual history of the Islamic World. Developing an independent research profile in the field of Cultural and Intellectual history of the Islamic World. International publication and lecturing activities. Participation in the FWF Cluster of Excellence ‘EurAsian Transformations’. Supporting the acquisition of third-party funding. Preparing a habilitation in the field of Cultural and Intellectual history of the Islamic world. Preparing and carrying out teaching duties (in accordance with the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement of the university scientific staff). Supervising students. Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance. Administrative tasks in research and teaching. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.  Job Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.• Undertake these responsibilities in the project: i. Lead and support high quality publications to disseminate the applied research outcomes. ii. Plan, organize and carry out experiments and trials in the food pilot plant to achieve the objectives iii. Manage and complete the project by presenting the findings in conferences or meetings with industrial collaborator, submitting timely data & documents, and purchase chemicals or consumables. iv. Consolidate the data in order to generate sufficient scientific evidence for meetings slides and report in conferences. v. Engage and communicate with collaborators for progress meetings and report generation to meet the grantor's requirements. The candidate is to liaise and communicate with any internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met and to perform any other adhoc duties assigned by Supervisor.  Job requirements Have relevant competence in the areas of protein chemistry, analytical chemistry for amino acid profiling, polyphenol profile analysis, SDS-PAGE, and protein hydrolysis. Have a degree in Food Science and Technology, or Analytical Chemistry. Possessing a Master's or PhD degree will be advantageous Experience and Knowledge of operating HPLC, MALDI-TOF and Q-TOF Mass spectrometry for protein sequencing, carbohydrate/Sugar analysis, and polyphenol identification. Previous experience as lab-in-charge or equipment-in-charge will be advantageous. Able to communicate with industrial collaborators to share key findings, seek supports, or conducting commercial trials. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety, and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.

This position presents an opportunity for a research-active scholar with demonstrated teaching leadership to contribute to the growth of one of Australia's leading aerospace programs. The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality teaching, impactful research, and strong industry engagement across the Department's undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The role will suit an academic who is already developing a national research profile and a collaborative research program aligned with emerging aerospace technologies and systems. You will lead and contribute to innovative teaching, curriculum development and program delivery, while also strengthening the Department's research capacity through externally funded research, high-quality publications, and supervision of higher-degree-by-research (HDR) candidates. Description The Prof. Sunil Kumar’s Research Group in the Division of Engineering, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a junior research scientist to develop AI-enabled healthcare applications. Key Responsibilities: Develop and fine-tune computer-vision models, instance segmentation, and retrieval-based estimation from images and text metadata. Build and evaluate monocular depth pipelines and implement multimodal retrieval with re-rankers for robust profile selection. Design and train advanced AI models for digital twin: 3D model learning, prediction models from imaging and molecular data, model-based simulation coupling, and uncertainty-aware outputs for lab/clinical validation. Work with 3D datasets, time-series sensors, and multi-omics or assay data to create predictive models and digital twin prototypes. Maintain reproducible code, experiments, and model/ dataset versioning; develop deployment artifacts (Docker, CI/CD scripts) and support cloud/HPC model training. Plan, run and analyze pilot studies (SME pilots and lab validation); participate in data collection, annotation and lab assay coordination. Write up results and contribute to publications, technical reports and presentations for academic and non-academic stakeholders. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, electrical/computer engineering, applied mathematics, computational biology, bioengineering, or a closely related discipline. Solid experience training and evaluating AI models. Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow). Experience with dataset curation, annotation workflows, FAISS/embedding retrieval, LLM-based parsing, RAG-style pipeline, and GPU/HPC training. Familiarity with 3D data processing or willingness to learn quickly. Publications, thesis work, or demonstrable projects in computer vision, multi-modal ML, digital twins or biomedical ML. Familiarity with uncertainty quantification and model explainability methods. Strong software engineering practices: Git, reproducible experiments, modular code, deploying models in cloud (AWS/GCP) and containerized services (Docker, Kubernetes). Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across interdisciplinary teams.
