Azerbaijan State Agricultural University traces its origins to 1920, when the Azerbaijan Revolutionary Committee established the Baku Technical Institute with an agricultural faculty, marking the beginning of higher agricultural education in the country. In 1929, the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute was formally established on this basis and relocated to Ganja in 1931.
Over time, it merged with several specialised institutes to expand its educational and research capabilities. It was renamed the Azerbaijan Agricultural Academy in 1991 and became Azerbaijan State Agricultural University in 2009.
Today, Azerbaijan State Agricultural University operates with eight faculties and 37 departments, offering 33 specialisations at bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. Teaching is conducted in Azerbaijani, English, Russian, and Turkish, with state-ordered programmes in agriculture, veterinary medicine, agroengineering, soil science, and related fields.
The university has a strong focus on international collaboration, offering dual diploma programmes with Ege University in Türkiye and Oklahoma State University in the United States. It provides substantial student support, including monthly scholarships, additional grants for high-achieving students, and extra financial support for those studying in English.
Azerbaijan State Agricultural University maintains partnerships with approximately 100 institutions in over 20 countries and has a rich history of distinguished faculty and alumni, including prominent scientists, poets, and state figures.
