When Aydın Adnan Menderes University (ADU) was founded in 1992, it had just five faculties: arts and humanities, economics and administrative sciences, medicine, veterinary, and agriculture. Today, it has16 faculties offering a wide range of degree programmes at both undergraduate and graduate level.

There are 16 vocational schools at the university including the Sultanhisar Vocational School, the Didim Vocational School, and the Kuyacak Vocational School. There are also three institutes: the Institute of Science and Technology, Health Sciences Institute, and the Institute of Social Sciences.

Students can participate in the diverse array of extracurricular activities, cultural events, and sports programmes.

The university is named after Adnan Menderes, a prominent Turkish politician who served as the Prime Minister of Turkey in the 1950s.

As its name suggests, the university is located in Aydın, a city in southwestern Turkey.

Who we are: We are looking to hire a postdoctoral research fellow to join the ERC-funded research project Beyond Thalidomide: The Patient as an Agent of Change, based at the University of Vienna. Beyond Thalidomide (2024-2029), funded by an ERC Starting Grant pioneers a history of the global rise of patient engagement with drug-related disability in the second half of the twentieth century to understand how newly empowered agents transformed conceptions of (reproductive) health and disease in science and society. It develops a framework to examine the origins, development, and consequences of patient engagement with antenatal drug use, iatrogenic disability, and reproductive health from the 1960s until today. The PI of the project is Prof. Birgit Nemec, chair of History of Medicine and the Biomedical Sciences at the Faculty Center for Transdisciplinary Historical and Cultural Studies. The Chair of History of Medicine and Biosciences at the Faculty Center for Transdisciplinary Historical-Cultural Studies aims to test and further develop approaches and methods in the field of modern history of knowledge and political epistemologies of medicine and the life sciences and to connect the department's institutes in research and teaching. The current thematic focus of the chair includes sex/gender diversity; medical products; risks and reproductive health; patient activism; dis/ability and global health as well as oral history methods and methods of research collaboration. The employment duration is 2 years. About us  King’s College London invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) in AI for Equitable Disease Modelling to join the GeoAI for Health Equity Lab (GAHEL, pronounced “gail”) led by Dr. Sabrina Li. The PDRA will contribute to Dr. Li’s UKRI-funded Future Leaders Fellowship project which focusses on integrating equity considerations into infectious disease modelling and surveillance, starting with the UK. The PDRA will be based in the Department of Geography, but will have access to training and support from King’s Health Partners Digital Health Hub, King’s Institute for Artificial Intelligence, and the Digital Futures Institute.  The PDRA will also have access to research and career development from King’s Centre for Research Staff Development. The postholder will work closely with Dr. Li and in collaboration with national and international interdisciplinary partners based at the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, John Hopkins University (USA), and Google Deepmind (London). About the role The PDRA will lead the development of new computational and mathematical models to quantify and predict infectious disease risk, particularly for identifying high risk individuals and groups. The PDRA will translate conceptual frameworks into mathematical models of complex cross-scale disease dynamics across different epidemiological scenarios. A key responsibility is to test key assumptions about differential disease risk by integrating high-resolution socio-ecological, environmental, and novel health data from individual and population sources. This research will advance our understanding of how major infectious diseases of concern in the UK emerge, spread, and unequally affect different individuals and population groups.  Outcomes of this research will help advance the development of more equitable, spatial data-driven approaches to public health surveillance and pandemic preparedness, with direct links to public health policy. The findings will inform the development of a real-time spatial AI system to improve early detection and risk prediction, to protect vulnerable populations in the UK and in the future globally.  This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 30 April 2030. Part time employment may be considered. Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. About you  To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: Essential criteria PhD in applied mathematics, statistics, engineering, computational biology, econometrics, or a related discipline. Familiarity with spatial and statistical libraries (e.g. INLA, PyMC, scikit-learn, GeoPandas). Proven ability to work independently. Track record in publishing peer-reviewed papers. Department of Forest Sciences of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry invites applications for a Doctoral researcher in forest planning starting from February 2026, or as agreed. The doctoral researcher will be offered a full-time contract for an initial 1 year, with the possibility for extension to the end of August 2029, corresponding with the possible extension of the ForTran (fortran.fi/en) Strategic Research Council funding. The selected appointee will be informed of the possible continuation as soon as a decision is made by the RCF. There will be a trial period of 6 months at the beginning of the employment. Position description: The successful candidate will work in the project “ForTran - Forests in systemic transition – balancing efficiency with fairness and resilience.” funded by the Research -Council of Finland. The work will be conducted in a transdisciplinary group of researchers, including anthropologists, ecologists, business and management scientists, systems scientists and forest scientists. This position will prioritize the developing a clear method to identify and quantify the ecological and societal boundaries of forest use. This research will enhance tools used in forest planning, use of forest simulators through a simulation and optimization framework. The research can focus on how to improve the use of decision support tools by private forest owners; focus on the trade-offs and synergies between sustainability of timber harvesting and other ecosystem services; focus on how to integrate uncertainty to quantify and assess the robustness of the sustainability of forests. Skills, expertise and or qualifications: A master’s degree in forest sciences, environmental sciences, applied mathematics or closely related field.
