Augsburg College is an arts college located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Founded in 1869, it was established as a Norwegian-American Lutheran seminary known as Augsburg Seminary.
There are some 18 buildings on site, which offer around 50 undergraduate and 9 postgraduate courses. Courses at Augsburg College are accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Over the years, Augsburg students have earned honours including Rhodes Scholarships, Fulbright Scholarships as well as many others.
In 2010 Augsburg College was one of the six higher education institutions to receive the Presidential Award for Community Service, sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
In both 2012 and 2013, Augsburg College housed the Nobel Peace Prize Forum, which brought exclusive and respected members of the professional world to campus. Students and staff had an impressive opportunity to interact with people from the professional world.
There is a student-produced newspaper called The Echo, which consists of five sections: news, opinions and editorials, sports, arts and entertainment, and features. Moreover it is printed by Print Group Midwest on recycled paper.
It also has a student radio station, which streams 24 hours-a-day online through their website and can be heard within a 2-mile radius of the campus.
Augsburg is known for its sports, and its wrestling team has won twelve NCAA Division III National team wrestling champions, while the men's hockey team have won 3 NAIA national ice hockey championships.
Notable alumni include Roger Huerta, a former wrestler and mixed martial artist who once competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Lute Olson, a basketball coach at University of Iowa and Arizona who also coached Arizona to a national championship, and Jane Jeong Trenka, an activist, author, and winner of a Minnesota Book Award.
