Asfendiyarov Kazakh national medical university was originally established in 1931 and has become a milestone in the history of education, medicine and the country as a whole. Since it was founded, the university has trained more than 80,000 doctors of different specialities who have made significant contributions to the development of public health. Every third doctor in Kazakhstan is a graduate of the university. The university is located in Almaty, the largest city in Kazakhstan with a population of over two million. Almaty was the capital of the country between 1929 and 1997, when the country was an autonomous republic of the Soviet Union. Today, the city is the commercial, financial and cultural centre of Kazakhstan. Academically, the university is divided into seven medical faculties: general medicine faculty, therapeutic faculty, faculty of paediatrics, medical-prophylactic faculty, stomatology faculty, pharmacy faculty, and the faculty of management in public health and pharmacy. Within each faculty are different departments, which offer a wide range of degree programmes at both undergraduate and graduate level. The department for international cooperation was established in 2008. It is responsible for working to develop foreign relations with international universities across the globe to facilitate academic and scientific exchanges. It works with scientific and medical centres and pharmaceutical organisations around the world in order to contribute to the development of public health. Alumni of the university include three rectors of Kazakhstan medical universities, six heads of regional health institutions, six world champions, two Olympic champions, and 45 honoured doctors of the Kazakh SSR.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree and associated post-doctoral training in Medical Imaging Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or Biomedical Engineering. They should demonstrate (i) evidence of international recognition and scholarship; (ii) the ability to work across disciplines towards new research initiatives; (iii) a strong track record of high-quality research as indicated by publications (including multiple publications in high-impact journals of impact factor >10) and external grants; and (iv) a strong commitment to engage students at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The appointee will provide leadership in imaging research with particular focus on medical imaging AI research, and assist with managing AI-related infrastructures within the Department. He/She is expected to participate in applications for external competitive research grants for the Department, and will contribute to teach undergraduate and postgraduate programs, supervise student projects and theses, and take up administrative duties as required. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary. In addition to specialist radiation knowledge, you will need to be able to apply general expertise in health and safety to support the University activities. The role is responsible for development, implementation and review of the radiation protection management system that ensures the University maintains its compliance with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 and the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2016 Main responsibilities: In liaison with the external RPA/RWA, to provide radiation protection advice and support to a wide range of research streams, and to promote continuous improvement of measures to reduce risk and exposure to ALARP. To manage the University’s Environmental Permits for radioactive waste disposal, and to provide oversight of its radiation protection management system. In liaison with the RWA, to provide advice on the best available techniques for management and disposal of radioactive waste to ensure compliance with the University’s Permits. To coordinate provision of dosimetry across the University. To carry out internal audits and inspections of the Faculties working with ionising radiations. To develop and deliver radiation protection training. To liaise with relevant regulators, including EA, HSE, CTSA and Fire Service. To provide general health and safety advice to academic schools and professional services within the University. Ideally, the successful candidate will have a proven track record of radiation protection and health and safety expertise, ideally in an education or research environment. The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Helsinki invites applications for the position of INFORMATION SYSTEMS SPECIALIST for a fixed-term appointment from 11 May, 2026 to 31 March, 2027, or as agreed. We seek an information systems specialist to join the ReliaCode project at the University of Helsinki. Our aim is to make LLMs usable in organisational settings with high reliability requirements, especially for reasoning about complex document collections. We’re building methods to make it easier to tell when LLM outputs can’t be trusted, and to improve systems efficiently from limited human feedback. The work is part of an early-stage initiative based in a university environment, with secured funding and a strong focus on real-world impact through pilot collaborations with organizations. The goal is to iteratively develop a product that could evolve either into a general-purpose platform for unstructured data processing or a focused solution in a specific domain. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of research and product, and to help shape the technical direction of a potential startup from the ground up. We are offering a year-long full-time contract with the possibility of continuing afterwards in a potential spin-out company. We are particularly looking for candidates with: Strong Python and software engineering skills Hands-on experience using LLMs in applications, especially with multiple model calls and high reliability requirements Experience evaluating LLM systems, including designing benchmarks and using evaluation signals to identify failures and improve system performance Familiarity with practical ML approaches for ranking or classification with noisy or limited signals Comfort working independently in an early-stage project and taking ownership of open-ended problems The following are seen as advanteges but not necessary: Experience working with unstructured data sources (e.g. documents, long-form text) Familiarity with machine learning or NLP, particularly in areas such as information extraction or human-in-the-loop systems Some experience building and maintaining applications used by others  Familiarity with standard software engineering practices (e.g. version control, code review, testing, iterative development) What we offer The University of Helsinki is an equal opportunity employer and offers an attractive and diverse workplace with a variety of development opportunities and benefits.
