Established in 1972, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport is a university operated by the Arab League, which specialises in marine transportation, business, and engineering. The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport offers a wide range of courses within the following faculties: maritime transport and technology, archaeology and cultural heritage, engineering and technology, management and technology, computing and information technology, graduate school of business, international transport and logistics, language and communication, fisheries technology and aquaculture, pharmacy, law, dental medicine and artificial intelligence. Courses are taught in Arabic, English or French languages. There are eight separate campuses associated with the university, with two built just in 2019. The Sharjah campus in the United Arab Emirates has student dormitories and plenty of opportunities for students to get involved with activities and events like the Sharjah Book Fair. Seminars and lectures are organised by the cultural activities department in addition to trips and athletic activities. The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport has established relationships with universities around the world, carrying out various exchange activities such as academic exchanges, scientific research cooperation and the opportunity for students to study abroad. Partner universities include the University of Northampton (United Kingdom). The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport offers a small number of scholarships designed to recognise and award academic excellence.

Research Fellow in Computational Glycobiology

We are seeking a computational glycobiologist to join a multidisciplinary project developing next-generation enzymatic tools for antibody glycoengineering. The role will focus on applying state-of-the-art structural modelling and computational protein design approaches to understand and engineer enzymes that modify IgG Fc N-linked glycans. The successful candidate will use tools such as AlphaFold, molecular modelling platforms, and glycan conformational analysis frameworks (e.g. GlycoShape) to investigate the structural dynamics of IgG glycans and their interactions with glycosyltransferases. Working closely with structural biologists and glycobiologists, they will analyse enzyme-substrate interfaces, model Fc-glycan accessibility, and support the design of engineered enzymes with enhanced activity toward IgG substrates. Computational insights will guide the design of chimeric glycosyltransferases that incorporate Fc-binding domains to achieve proximity-driven enhancement of glycan processing. This role is ideally suited to a researcher with experience in computational structural biology, glycobiology, or protein modelling, who is interested in applying AI-enabled structural prediction and glycan modelling tools to real-world challenges in antibody engineering. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to the development of new technologies for precise control of antibody glycosylation, with applications in therapeutic antibody manufacturing and immune effector modulation. The role We are seeking an ambitious and highly motivated postdoctoral Research Fellow in quantitative genetics to join a multidisciplinary research team. The post involves working with a team based at the University of Surrey, King’s College London and the University of Oxford. The post is based at the University of Surrey with Professor Angelica Ronald. The project aims to advance understanding of the brain basis and common genetic architecture underlying infant and childhood neurodevelopment, with a particular focus on the development of autism spectrum conditions. Objectives will be achieved by applying advanced multivariate analytic methods to large-scale datasets emerging from genome-wide association studies of developmental traits. Existing datasets, including genetic, neuroimaging and clinical data, will be combined to generate novel insights into biological and developmental processes contributing to autism and related traits. You will be responsible for conducting a range of advanced quantitative analysis on secondary datasets incorporating genetic, neuroimaging and clinical data on child development. You will have responsibility for supporting integration across the study team including: overseeing data transfer agreements between institutions; version-controlling and archiving code and leading data cleaning, harmonisation and analysis. Throughout the project you will work with an interdisciplinary team of lead investigators and external collaborators. You will have access to advanced methodological training courses and other professional development training opportunities. You will lead on high-impact publications, conference presentations and dissemination of results. About you You should have a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline such as quantitative genetics, behavioural genetics, human genetics, developmental psychology, neuroscience and individual differences psychology (although individuals who have almost completed a doctoral degree may be appointed). You will also have an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline with a 2:1 or first-class grade (or international equivalent). You will already have some experience in conducting quantitative data analytic studies and preparing data for analysis and be proficient in using R, Python or similar programming language. You should have the ability to write clearly and concisely with a good publication record commensurate with the level of your career, and the ability to work independently with excellent organisation and communication skills. We are seeking highly motivated post-doctoral researchers of high calibre to join our research program working in the area of electronic textiles. The role is suited to candidates from either academia or industry, with experience of both is an advantage. The position is funded by the EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) project: SUSTAIN - Sustainable heterogenoUs e-textileS for impercepTible humAn INterfaces. SUSTAIN will tackle fundamental challenges across electronic textile-based sensing, wireless, electrochemical and design technologies with a focus on sustainable developments towards practical user-centric e-textile systems. This position is located within WP4 relating to E-textiles and garment design working under the supervision and direction of WP4 lead Dr Marie O’Mahony. You will be based in the Winchester School of Art (WSA) and join an interdisciplinary University of Southampton research team from across Winchester School of Art and the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences and work with collaborators at the University of Glasgow. To be successful with your application, you will need to demonstrate:  A PhD or equivalent in an appropriate area related the role. A strong background in knit for E-textiles/Wearables with an understanding or experience of commercialisation desirable. Over 3 years’ experience in using Shima Seiki knitting equipment including excellent programming skills. Knowledge and experience in fibres, yarns, and textiles.
