Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to develop new herbicide compounds focusing on synthesis and characterizations of HPPD inhibitor herbicides. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. i. Undertake these responsibilities in the project: ii. Design and synthesize novel HPPD inhibitor compounds iii. Conduct laboratory experiments for the synthesis of target compounds, including purification and characterization using techniques such as NMR, MS, FTIR, GC and HPLC Optimize synthetic routes and troubleshoot any challenges encountered during synthesis Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Job Requirements A master’s degree or Ph.D. in chemistry, or a related field. Experience in organic synthesis techniques and analytical instrumentation. Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. 1 x Full time, ongoing role to join the School of Engineering - Department of Aerospace Engineering Salary Academic Level C ($141,247 - $ 162,872) + 17% super Primarily based at City campus, and the potential to work across other RMIT campuses as required and during FIFO periods of off-shore teaching in Aviation programs delivered in the Indo-Pacific. About the Role The Senior Lecturer, Aviation will contribute to teaching and research within the Department of Aerospace Engineering in the School of Engineering. The role includes delivery of Aviation programs and active engagement in research and professional activities. The appointee will develop and lead research aligned with University priorities, contributing to research income and outputs, and building collaborative links across RMIT and with external partners. The role may also include responsibility for Aviation program management. The position is suited to candidates with expertise in areas such as airline and airport operations, aviation safety and human factors, or crewed and uncrewed air operations and air traffic management. The role is supported by established industry partnerships and access to relevant research and teaching infrastructure, including the Sir Lawrence Wackett Defence and Aerospace Centre, the Aviation Academy, and digital and simulation facilities such as VxLab. To be successful for this position, you will have: Demonstrated ability to coordinate large courses and prepare and delivery programs at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, including high-quality curriculum and program materials and ability to implement innovative approaches to student-centred learning and quality improvement. Ability to manage a large program or a number of small programs. Demonstrated ability to support student issues related to effective learning. Emerging nationally recognised research track record including substantial record of research outputs in high-quality outlets. Extensive experience in research leadership with the ability to build and develop collaborative research teams, mentor academic staff to deliver high-quality outcomes, attract and secure external research funding to sustain research effort and manage funded research projects including complex budgets and reporting requirements. Extensive experience in supervising higher-degree-by-research candidates to maximise research performance. Demonstrated ability to manage academic program team, supporting scholarly development of less experienced academic staff. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to financial, governance and quality management systems within a university. Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills including the ability to consult with senior executives, external bodies, produce executive reports, negotiate agreed directions, outcomes and targets within a collaborative environment. Qualifications Mandatory: PhD in one of the following domains: Aviation, Aviation Management (including safety), Operational Research, Statistics, Data Science, Supply Chain and Logistics, Business (Business Management, international business/trade), Economics, Tourism, and Aerospace Engineering. Knowledge, skills and experience: Broader domain knowledge across aviation spectrum, with demonstrated skills and experience or expertise in the following, which include but are not limited to : airport/airline strategy, management and operations; air traffic management; transport economics and competition; air travel (traffic) modelling; demand forecasting; scheduling and optimisation, travel behaviour, aviation safety including human factors and risk management, crewed and uncrewed air operations, logistics and supply chain management and strategy, data-driven approach to aviation research Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children Check and other checks as required by the specific role.
