About the project: Difficulties in swallowing or chewing affect millions worldwide, especially among the elderly. We are currently conducting a research project to develop transitional foods which can make a positive impact on the quality of life for those with swallowing difficulties. This research position works closely with a multidisciplinary team of project investigators. We invite outstanding and talented candidates who are passionate about making a difference and have a strong desire to enhance their R&D competencies to apply. The primary role of this position is in the area of materials characterisation, focusing specifically on how foods break down due to oral forces and the effects of moisture and temperature. The work encompasses both experimental studies and modelling (finite element simulations). This position requires a strong aptitude in materials engineering, mechanics and data analysis. Key Responsibilities: Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Conduct materials testing to characterise the mechanical and dissolution behaviour of foods Develop models based on micromechanical and macroscopic properties Document, publish and present research findings Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Job Requirements: A passion for developing and analysing the complex behaviour of foods Evidence of strong knowledge and interest in solid mechanics and materials characterisation Evidence of ability to lead, manage and perform research independently as well as in a group A Degree in materials engineering, mechanical engineering or a related discipline Key Competencies: Strong initiative and a sense of responsibility A high degree of self-motivation and curiosity in technical pursuits, with the ability to develop original ideas Strong experimentation skills and theoretical knowledge in materials engineering Able to work independently as well as to maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university Proficient in technical writing and presentation A desire to develop new engineering solutions that provide a tangible benefit to society

About the Role The Senior Lecturer, Aviation will contribute to teaching and research within the Department of Aerospace Engineering in the School of Engineering. The role includes delivery of Aviation programs and active engagement in research and professional activities. The appointee will develop and lead research aligned with University priorities, contributing to research income and outputs, and building collaborative links across RMIT and with external partners. The role may also include responsibility for Aviation program management. The position is suited to candidates with expertise in areas such as airline and airport operations, aviation safety and human factors, or crewed and uncrewed air operations and air traffic management. About the project: ChirTrans investigates how chirality of swimming bacteria determines their active transport processes in complex microstructured heterogeneous environments and in complex shear flows. It combines computational and theoretical modeling at the University of Vienna with experiments performed at ESPCI Paris. Our previous work demonstrated the importance of bacterial chirality in transport in simple microchannel flows and near plane surfaces.
