Amref International University was created by Amref Health Africa, which aims to provide mobile medical services. 
It is based in Nairobi. 
Students can study across schools of medical science, nursing, community health and health systems management and development, physiotherapy and the International Training Centre which offers six diploma courses.
Degrees are offered in health records and information management, physiotherapy, community health practice and health systems management and development, while nursing, along with midwifery and productive health, is offered at both entry and upgrade levels.

About the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences

The School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences is at the forefront of higher education in Pharmacy, Biomedical Science, Forensic Science, Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Science, and related areas. As a result of this expertise, the school has excellent working relationships with law enforcement agencies, pharmaceutical providers, the NHS, and industry.

From investigating human diseases, including diagnostic and treatment strategies; new methods of drug delivery; to working with police forces to provide new forensic analytical methods and techniques; the school has a wide range of expertise and areas of interest.

What we’re looking for

We are seeking a highly professional, enthusiastic and committed individual to join our academic team in Biomedical Sciences, with a specific interest in the cellular and molecular pathology of disease, with a scope broader than cancer alone. You will hold a PhD in Biomedical Sciences or related discipline, and bring demonstrable research experience in biomedical sciences and cellular and molecular pathology, along with an ability to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in relevant lectures, tutorials and seminars.

In this role, you contribute to the delivery and administration of the School’s Foundation, BSc and MSc Biomedical Science programmes, as well as other relevant undergraduate and postgraduate modules across the school. Your expertise will complement and strengthen our existing research and teaching activities in these areas.

We are now looking for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow (PDRF) in our School of Engineering, working in an innovative research project co-funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) in the UK and the National Science Foundation (NSF) in the US.

This project will be in collaboration with the University of Texas at Austin, and with the world-leading institute IMEC in Belgium whose consortium members include top companies such as Intel, TSMC, Micron, Samsung, Kioxia and Western Digital, and also with a number of other industrial project partners in the UK and US. The PDRF will have opportunities to work at IMEC with scientists from these prestigious organisations, fostering exceptional career growth.

This project will focus on overcoming the endurance and reliability challenge in atomic non-volatile resistive switching (RRAM/ReRAM) memristors (Atomristor) and 2D MOSFET transistors (2DFET) made in monolayer two-dimensional semiconductor materials. These novel devices can substantially reduce the interelectrode distance or channel thickness to sub-nanometers, resulting in the thinnest memory and logic devices with smaller switching voltages (~300 mV) and the potential for several orders of higher energy efficiency than existing devices. To address this challenge, rigorous study is required to gain physical and operational insights that can translate into better-engineered devices (e.g., defects, interfaces, fields) and tailored testing protocols for improved switching cycles and reliable performance. This project will lay the groundwork for a new paradigm of deployable atomic devices that can be used ubiquitously towards ultra-low energy AI, neuromorphic and in-memory computing systems, 6G, and logic systems with unprecedented efficiency and scalability.

Professor Weidong Zhang and his group at LJMU have extensive research expertise into the use and characterisation of memory and logic devices, through a strong partnership and close collaboration with IMEC. The group has a distinguished research track record and start-of-the-art testing facilities. In the UK's 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF), LJMU ranked among the top performing universities in Engineering, with 100% of the group’s outputs rated as international excellent or higher. You will have a strong background and keen interest in nanoelectronics, microelectronics, semiconductor devices and VLSI technology. You should hold or be nearing completion of a PhD and have strong ability in either electrical and electronic engineering, physics, material, or a related discipline. While experience in nanoelectronic device characterisation, modelling, IC circuit design, or simulation is preferred, but it is not mandatory. The post requires excellent communication and team work skills.

Applications are invited for appointment as Part-time Teaching Assistant in the Journalism and Media Studies Centre (JMSC) under the School of Future Media (Ref.: 533832) to commence on January 1, 2025 for 5 months, with possibility of renewal based on satisfactory performance and funding availability. 

The JMSC is seeking a trained journalist to support an undergraduate course JMSC1012, a foundational news reporting and writing course.

Key Responsibilities 


	Conduct tutorials and practical sessions: Lead tutorials, facilitate hands-on news reporting and writing exercises, provide one-on-one coaching, and support students in overcoming challenges and developing core skills introduced in lectures. 
	Grade and provide feedback: Assess student work using a collaborative grading system, give constructive feedback and answer student queries about assignments and concepts. 
	Support course administration and management: Help manage, update, and organize course content and resources (including on Moodle) 
	Foster an inclusive and innovative environment: Contribute to a supportive learning atmosphere, encourage engagement from students of diverse backgrounds, and assist with organizing guest lectures, newsroom visits, or collaborative projects. 
	Maintain communication with instructors: Communicate regularly about student progress, attend instructor meetings as needed, flag classroom issues, and stay current on journalism tools and industry developments. 


Requirements 


	Bachelor’s degree or above in journalism and/or media studies 
	Professional experience as a journalist, with a solid understanding of news gathering, writing and reporting and the social media landscape 
	Strong command of written and spoken English 
	Proficiency in news journalism tools and techniques (e.g. content management systems, newsroom software, social media platforms and multimedia reporting tools).
	Knowledge of other Asian languages and prior teaching experience are advantageous 


Working Hours and Compensation 


	The position requires 18.5 hours per week, with some flexibility in scheduling but relevant classes are held on Tuesday afternoons in the 2025-26 academic year. 
	Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, calculated on an hourly basis.
