The National Art School is seeking an experienced and visionary academic leader to head our Painting Department. This role leads one of Australia’s most respected studio‑based programs, shaping the next generation of contemporary painters while stewarding the School’s pedagogical excellence, artistic rigour, and vibrant studio culture. This position (full-time Head of Painting, Senior Lecturer Level D) is offered on a five-year secondment, with the possibility of renewal for subsequent terms, subject to a successful performance review, or reversion to the underlying permanent substantive position (Lecturer C). Degree Courses Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) The BFA course is designed to support the development of the creative independence, knowledge and experience required for a successful career as a practicing artist or arts sector professional. The course is delivered full-time over three years and includes a comprehensive investigation of a broad range of art making disciplines supported by rigorous theoretical enquiry. Art History & Theory and Professional Studies are delivered as core subjects throughout all three years of the course in addition to specialised studio-based study in Ceramics, Painting, Photomedia, Printmaking, Sculpture and Drawing (from 2027). Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) The Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) is an intensive one-year course designed for graduates of the BFA who are ready to deepen their studio practice and expand their academic and professional capabilities. This course is ideal for emerging artists who want to refine their practice, build industry connections, and prepare for postgraduate study or professional opportunities in the creative sector. Master of Fine Art (MFA)* The MFA is a two-year full-time research degree designed for graduates who seek to develop a higher level of specialised knowledge and further their professional expertise and advanced research within their studio practice. Candidates develop an individual research project supported by supervisors relevant to their areas of interest. Doctor of Fine Art (DFA) The three-year DFA degree is a practice-based professional doctorate that provides a platform for integrating professional expertise and scholarly enquiry within the visual arts. This unique offering provides an important alternative to conventional PhD research for practising professionals who are committed to the highest standards of professional practice, academic research and critical enquiry through fine art practice. *NAS is currently phasing out our existing Masters by coursework degree with plans to implement a revised MFA (Research) degree from 2027. The Position The Head of Painting is responsible for developing and leading Painting curriculum in the BFA course and collaborating with the Head of Postgraduate Studies to support Painting in postgraduate courses, including the BFA(Hons), MFA and DFA degrees. The Full-time Head of Painting works with the other Heads of Departments and Heads of Programs to deliver academic and research support to students. What you bring to the role The Head of Painting provides academic leadership and management of the Painting courses, including line management of permanent staff, sessional staff, and technicians. The position manages resource allocation including studios, budget oversight, and management of related learning and teaching materials. FoodPlant Pte Ltd Position: Technician If you accept this role, your work located will be at Senoko. Responsibilities: Provide support to ensure the facility functions effectively, while complying with the relevant legislation and statutory requirements. Manage equipment/ facility calibration and maintenance activities. Support in starting up utilities services timely in preparation for production operation. Ensure safety, cleanliness and order of the facility. Assist in the preparation of Risk Assessment, Safe Work Procedures and other relevant documents. Track records of all documentation including Risk Assessment, Safe Work Procedures, inventory records of consumables such as hazardous and bio-hazardous chemicals, electronic components and mechanical spare parts. Handle the procurement and logistics for apparatus and consumables. Provide support to staff in the preparation of materials and setting up equipment for production. Perform any other administrative duties and responsibilities and ad-hoc duties as directed by the head of the facility. Support R&D and commercial production for client projects.   Requirements: Minimum Polytechnic Diploma, or an equivalent qualification. Possession of a Class II boiler license is an advantage. Project summary An exciting opportunity is available to join the laboratories of Dr Salah Mansour and Dr Ali Roghanian at the University of Southampton. We are seeking a collaborative and motivated postdoctoral scientist to work on our Blood Cancer UK-funded programme developing next-generation, off-the-shelf immunotherapies for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). This three-year project will harness cytotoxic invariant Natural Killer T (iNKT) cells for precision targeting of AML, an aggressive leukaemia with poor survival outcomes. Building on strong preliminary data, it combines mechanistic and translational immunology with bespoke in vivo models to define and exploit therapeutically relevant subsets. The Research Fellow will lead studies on cytotoxic T cell mechanisms, oversee preclinical validation, and advance CAR-iNKT platforms optimised for AML immunotherapy. The role bridges basic and translational research and suits a creative scientist with interests in tumour immunology, T cell engineering, and immunotherapy. You will join a multidisciplinary team spanning immunology, and bioinformatics, with access to advanced flow cytometry, 10X Genomics, in vivo imaging platforms. Key responsibilities To work within the Mansour and Roghanian labs, and with collaborators at Southampton and beyond. To design, conduct, and analyse in vitro and in vivo immunology experiments. To lead the optimisation and functional assessment of human T cells and CAR T cells. To liaise and coordinate between project collaborators and core facilities. To record analyses accurately and present results at group meetings, national, and international conferences. To contribute to dissemination of findings through publications and grant applications. To supervise and support junior researchers and students. Any other duties appropriate to the scope and grade of the post. Postdoctoral Fellows are expected to lead their own projects, collaborate on others, and guide PhD and Master’s students. Essential qualifications, experience and competencies PhD (or near completion) in human T cell immunology, cancer biology, or a related discipline. Strong practical experience with core immunological assays (e.g. FACS, ELISA, T cell assays). Proven competence in the design and execution of experiments using mouse models of cancer. Ability to manage projects to timelines, supervise junior staff, and work both independently and collaboratively. Excellent communication and presentation skills, including at conferences. Desirable Experience with single-cell or bulk sequencing (e.g. 10X Genomics, RNA-seq). Familiarity with bioinformatics pipelines and large dataset interpretation.
