Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Biology or related disciplines, preferably with experience in virology research. They should have solid knowledge of chemistry and biology, and an excellent command of spoken and written English and Chinese. Experience in bioinformatic data analysis including microbiome, virome and environmental metagenomics would be preferred. They should be logical, detail-oriented and self-motivated. Preference will be given to those with experience in virus transmission. The appointees will lead a research team to conduct data analysis for different types of data, including genomic/metagenomic sequencing data, ecological surveillance data, as well as development of analysis pipeline. Description We are looking to hire a Junior Research Scientist or engineer to help us design and build novel systems and tools for decision-making support. A successful candidate should be able to design and implement systems and tools as well as demonstrate their efficacy through comparative performance evaluations or user studies. They should be able to work independently or as part of a team, depending on the project's scope. As we publicly share all our code and data artifacts, good coding & reproducible experimentation practices are a must. We meet frequently to provide short status updates and have regular technical 1-1s to dive deep into research problems. Successful RAs or REs present their work, progress, and challenges concisely and clearly. They should be keen about publishing their work and findings and strive to meet deadlines. A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering is required. The candidate should also demonstrate experience and excellence in systems or tool building, algorithmic thinking, and research. The ability to program in Python, C++, and other frameworks is a must. Comfort with declarative programming, SQL, and data management is highly desired. The job description further outlines desired skill sets, including the completion of advanced courses or projects in systems, HCI, or AI/ML. As part of a sustainable future, many products in our living environment will increasingly utilize components derived from wood and other biobased sources. These form an integral part of the forest products value chain, with strategic importance to Finland and Europe. At the same time there is a need to educate a wider audience besides our degree students, and therefore learning opportunities should be developed to be more accessible. The Bio2 department and other departments within CHEM are working at the forefront of research and teaching in sustainable biobased materials. To complement our expertise, we are seeking a University Teacher, University Lecturer or Senior University Lecturer with in-depth knowledge of sustainability in biobased materials who is ready to take on responsibilities in life-wide learning teaching. Role and goals The aim of the role is to teach life-wide / continuous learners and undergraduate students. In practice this means that selected current and future courses in the curriculum will be opened up to a wider audience, for example, in the form of online courses. The duties involve, to: Coordinate, develop and deliver engaging courses in life-wide learning with our academic staff, focusing on the integration of sustainability, circularity and cutting-edge materials science. Employ digital platforms to enhance teaching methods and course accessibility. Participate actively in course development, ensuring offerings are up to date with industry practices and advancements. Collaborate with fellow faculty to enrich the educational impact on our students and learners.
