Founded in 2017, Al-Manara College for Medical Sciences is a private, co-educational medical college in South Iraq. In it’s first year, the college had 679 students and 47 staff members. This has increased significantly over time. The college is comprised of six departments which include dentistry; pharmacy; pathological analysis; forensic techniques; radiology and sonar and anaesthesia. The department of pathological analysis was founded alongside the foundation of the college in 2017. The university aims to create technicians for medical labs, research centres and colleges and institutions, in both government institutions and private sectors, in areas such as pathology, clinical chemistry, parasites and hematology. More recently, the department of anaesthesia awarded graduates with the title of medical technician in anaesthesia. These graduate were then able to participate in anesthetisation and clinical observation. Facilities include the college library, an ambulance and a shop for students. There are also male and female students’ hostels, which are supervised in the mornings and evenings by male and female staff respectively. These include kitchen and study facilities. Lying on the bank of the Tigris River, among gardens of palm trees and flowers, the campus includes restaurants and a cafe for staff and students. There is also a garage, which is available to staff and students. A health centre provides support for students in case of first aid emergencies, while those in need of more extensive care are sent to the nearby Al-Sadr Hospital. On site security is operated by both the military and a private security company.

This Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project between LJMU and A-SAFE Ltd aims to develop a world-first structural bio-composite for use in impact-resistant safety barrier systems. The associate will lead the technical development of bio-composite materials, ensuring their suitability for industrial use through experimental validation, modelling, and manufacturing integration. This is a unique opportunity to lead impactful R&D in sustainable engineering within a commercial setting, while receiving academic and professional development support..  Job role includes: Lead research into natural fibre-reinforced bio-resins and develop composite formulations  Carry out physical testing, analysis, and validation of bio-composite structures Develop and validate material models and performance predictions using simulation tools  Integrate materials into injection moulding and extrusion processes through prototyping Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across R&D, production, and academic partners We are looking to appoint a graduate to run this project who satisfies the following essential criteria: Degree (minimum 2:1) in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, or related field. Strong understanding of composite materials and/or polymer processing. Experience with experimental testing, characterisation, and analysis of materials. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage a technically complex project. The role This is a prestigious 5-year fellowship (upto March 2031) funded by AWE Nuclear Security Technologies. The successful candidate will spend around half of their time working with the wider team in AWE's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Materials Ageing, Performance and Lifetime Prediction. This will include working collaboratively with our six visiting researchers, around 15 Surrey academics and researchers across Engineering and Chemistry, doctoral researchers, and technical staff across the University.
