About Al-Manara College for Medical Sciences

Founded in 2017, Al-Manara College for Medical Sciences is a private, co-educational medical college in South Iraq.

In it’s first year, the college had 679 students and 47 staff members. This has increased significantly over time.

The college is comprised of six departments which include dentistry; pharmacy; pathological analysis; forensic techniques; radiology and sonar and anaesthesia.

The department of pathological analysis was founded alongside the foundation of the college in 2017. The university aims to create technicians for medical labs, research centres and colleges and institutions, in both government institutions and private sectors, in areas such as pathology, clinical chemistry, parasites and hematology.

More recently, the department of anaesthesia awarded graduates with the title of medical technician in anaesthesia. These graduate were then able to participate in anesthetisation and clinical observation.

Facilities include the college library, an ambulance and a shop for students.

There are also male and female students’ hostels, which are supervised in the mornings and evenings by male and female staff respectively. These include kitchen and study facilities.

Lying on the bank of the Tigris River, among gardens of palm trees and flowers, the campus includes restaurants and a cafe for staff and students. There is also a garage, which is available to staff and students.

A health centre provides support for students in case of first aid emergencies, while those in need of more extensive care are sent to the nearby Al-Sadr Hospital.

On site security is operated by both the military and a private security company.
