We have over 450,000 books/eBooks and more than 42,000 electronic journals and provide a range of information skills and training courses. We are seeking a Temporary, full-time Senior Library Assistant. This post is based in the Engagement and Information Services (EIS) section. The successful candidate will supervise the Facilities and Events team in the library. The Facilities and Events team are comprised of part-time postgraduate students who cover extended service opening hours in the library. The successful candidate will also coordinate library events, external events and University events including Open Days. The successful candidate may be required to work a variety of shifts including evening and weekend duties. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively with people at all levels. Salary: Senior Library Assistant (2026): €45,758 - €55,537 p.a. (7 points) Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions. This is an opportunity to apply for a Postdoctoral Researcher post in Face Lab, relating to a craniofacial project and the application of dental data to the creation of a 3D digital avatar. You will require a 3D animation, computer science and/or anatomical modelling background. A knowledge of dental data and 3D visualisation is desirable. Face Lab, led by Professor Caroline Wilkinson, is an award-winning collaborative unit that combines art and science to explore facial identity and representation. Comprising academics and PhD researchers, it pioneers innovative craniofacial projects in forensic identification and digital heritage, advancing interdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange in heritage, arts, culture, and forensic investigation. Your personal sphere of influence: We are seeking a Communication Expert to further develop the Vienna Centre for Advanced Studies’ (ViCAS) visibility and impact. In this role, you will be responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of ViCAS’s communication activities in close coordination with the University of Vienna’s Communication Unit. You will develop and implement a communication strategy that aligns with ViCAS’s mission, engage global academic communities, and strengthen connections with stakeholders across the research and public spheres. A key part of the role is ensuring ViCAS's institutional positioning within the University of Vienna’s broader communication landscape. Your future tasks: Independent development, coordination, and implementation of communication strategies and campaigns covering all aspects of ViCAS, involving numerous stakeholders. Translate complex research into engaging content for blogs, press releases, and social media, using state-of-the-art communication practices. Creation and delivery of multimedia content for internal and external communication channels. Content planning and channel management, including the further development of communication channels, incl. managing and regularly updating the content of the Centre’s website. Collaborate closely with the ViCAS fellows to understand their scientific work and ensure its accurate representation. Build and maintain relationships with relevant (digital and legacy) media, coordinating interviews and managing media requests. Event management: Integration of ViCAS events in the communication strategy of the Centre and support of the Academic Coordinator with the organisation and execution of program events, workshops, and meetings. Monitor the effectiveness of communication measures and monitor media trends and public discourse in relevant scientific areas, using insights to refine strategies and enhance impact. Your profile: Required Qualifications and Skills Academic degree in (science) communications, journalism, media studies or other relevant field. 3+ years of experience in (research) communications, public outreach and media relations. Several years of professional experience in event management. Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a strong awareness of inclusive communication. Strong AI affinity and knowledge of CMS, social media and analytics. Project management experience. Excellent written and spoken English and German, minimum level C1. This role will be based in Durham with time spent at Durham's overseas partnerships, initially in China (up to 180 days per year). The role will be managed by Durham Centre for Academic Development (DCAD) and involve leading and coordinating the design and delivery of the EAP provision.
