Our faculty collaborates closely with industry on translational research and innovation with focus on addressing pertinent industry challenges to impact businesses.  The Singapore Teaching and Academic Research Talent (START) Scheme is co-funded by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and SIT to encourage and support outstanding young Singaporeans interested in pursuing an academic career at SIT. The Early Career Awards (ECA) are designed to support Singaporeans who have recently completed their postdoctoral training and prepare them for an academic career at SIT. This award aims to enhance the teaching capabilities of the recipient and help build a strong research portfolio. Upon completion of the award, awardees will be considered for Assistant Professorship. Awardees will also be assigned a faculty mentor for the duration of the scheme. Applications received before 15 January 2026 will be considered for intake 2026.  Interview by the respective clusters for shortlisted applicants will be conducted throughout the year.  Final Interview by Panel for shortlisted applicants will take place from March to April 2026. Awards for intake 2026 will be finalised by July 2026. We currently have positions available at all levels from Lecturer to Full Professor in Chemical Engineering or related disciplines. Priority skill areas include: process monitoring and control, industry 4.0, modeling, AI and ML applications for the process industries with particular emphasis on delivering step change improvements in process performance; Informatics for process and product development with a background in big data applications in biotechnology, process development or food technology; Quantitative scientific skills in physical chemistry/biochemistry/formulation to enable deeper process and product understanding in high value chemical, pharmaceutical biotechnology and/or food applications.   The successful candidate would be expected to teach core chemical of pharmaceutical engineering subjects and to develop applied research to support the continuing development of Singapore’s process industries. Requirements: A PhD in Chemical Engineering or related discipline Strong communication skills Aptitude for Applied Research leading to application of new knowledge to solve real-world problems A high level of digital literacy The following are desirable: Manufacturing, design or research experience in the process and related industries Knowledge and experience of Sustainability assessment as applied to the process industries Chartered or Professional Engineer status Successful candidates will join the Food, Chemical and Biotechnology (FCB) Cluster (one of five domain clusters in SIT), as members of a team of accomplished experts who are passionate about higher education and deeply involved with industry transformation through their applied research programmes.   Faculty in the FCB Cluster undertake funded industry-relevant research, teach courses in Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering and Food Technology as well as supervise graduate industry masters and doctorate students in relevant topics. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.  Key Responsibilities:  Plan and conduct wet chemistry experiments and functional mRNA tests, changing parameters according to the requirements of the established Design of Experiments  Detailed and careful experimentalist, able to capture critical details  Conduct individual projects with minimal supervision and drive to completion  Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met  Show strong initiative and take ownership of research work for publication.  Document, publish and present research findings to project stakeholders  Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.  Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers  The candidate is to liaise and communicate with any internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met and to perform any other adhoc duties assigned by Supervisor. Requirements (Expertise, Qualification and Experience):  Synthetic chemistry/biology (2-3 years experience in wet chemistry labs is ideal, experience in organic synthetic methods, inorganic or synthetic biology, formulations)  Pharmaceutical/Bio engineering (calculations, design of experiment, handling of mRNA)  Have a degree in Chemistry, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Engineering or closely related disciplines. Possessing a PhD degree will be advantageous.  Analytical chemistry (experience with chromatographic methods, particularly LC and hyphenated methods would be advantageous)  Strong experimentation skills and theoretical knowledge in chemistry, pharmaceutical/bio engineering  Experience with Design of Experiments (DoE)  Able to work independently as well as maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university  Show strong initiative and sense of responsibility  Proficient in technical writing and presentation  Possess a high degree of self-motivation and curiosity in technical pursuits, with the ability to develop original ideas
