Job Description FACULTY OF SCIENCE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS The Department has focus research areas in (a) Advanced Materials & Energy and (b) Biophysics & Complex Systems. Interdisciplinary research is actively promoted by the Faculty of Science, fostered under the University-wide six Interdisciplinary Labs (https://interdisciplinary-research.hkbu.edu.hk/), and supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities, such as the Life Science Imaging Centre (https://research.hkbu.edu.hk/resources/facilities-and-labs/hkbu-life-science-imaging-centre). Being part of a rapidly evolving research and educational landscape in the region, the Department strives to nurture leadership in emerging fields of transdisciplinary science, in particular advanced materials and device physics for biomedical/healthcare and green energy applications, big data and AI in smart sensor technology, and quantitative and systems biology. These efforts are supported by infrastructural and internationalisation initiatives at the University level and grounded on the Department's research achievements (evidenced by extensive international collaborations, external reviews such as Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), start-up companies and prestigious awards). The Department invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor. Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor (25260372) Responsibilities: The appointees will perform high-impact research, teach and supervise students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and contribute to professional and institutional services. Collaboration with other faculty members in research and teaching is also expected. Requirements: The candidates should have a PhD degree in Physics, Microelectronics, Advanced Materials or other relevant disciplines, a proven track record of collaborative research and a strong commitment to teaching. Experimental scientists with strong expertise in soft matters, biomaterials, flexible electronics, and electronics with living systems for applications in health monitoring, biomedical sensor devices, and multi-functional human-machine interaction, such as wearable electronics, microchip implant for machine-brain interface, tissue repair, and disease diagnosis, monitoring and treatment, are especially encouraged to apply. The appointee is expected to conduct world-class research and to teach at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Job Description SCHOOL OF CHINESE MEDICINE Multiple Senior Research Assistant positions are available in the Centre for Chinese Herbal Medicine Drug Development, which is located in the Hong Kong Science Park. CENTRE FOR CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE DRUG DEVELOPMENT Funded by the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) of the Hong Kong Government, the Centre for Chinese Herbal Medicine Drug Development Limited (the Centre) was established in September 2020 to accelerate the development of Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM)-based drugs and serve as a strategic platform to promote collaborations among local and international researchers, institutions and industry. The Centre aims to achieve the goal by enhancing the quality of pre-clinical and clinical CHM research and transforming the results into pharmaceutical products for international markets. In particular, the Centre develops treatments and cures for diseases such as ulcerative colitis and chronic constipation. It also supports the incubation of new CHM-based pharmaceutical start-ups that will target the global market, and nurtures talent for CHM research in Hong Kong. Senior Research Assistants in Chinese medicine research (24250237) The appointees will participate in preclinical research projects relating to cutting-edge new drug development based on Chinese herbal medicine. Responsibilities: Research and compilation of literature on classic traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions; Research on modern preparation processes and quality control criteria for classic chinese herbal formulas; Contribute to general laboratory operations, including the maintenance of cell culture and animals; Preparation and publication of research articles; and Undertake any other duties as assigned. Requirements: Hold a master's degree in chinese pharmacy, pharmacy, pharmaceutical analysis, pharmaceutical preparation, or other related disciplines; Proficient in extraction, purification, and qualitative/quantitative analysis techniques of active ingredients in traditional Chinese medicine; Familiar with cellular/molecular biology techniques; An excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese; and Passionate about scientific research, self-motivated, with independent research capabilities and strong teamwork spirit. Applicants with a higher level of qualification and/or experience may be considered for the positions of Research Associate or Senior Research Associate.
