Description The Division of Engineering at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a motivated post-doctoral associate with a strong background in control systems and machine learning to join the research team of Prof. M. Umar B. Niazi. The position focuses on the development of digital twins using physics-informed learning approaches, with specific applications to intelligent transportation systems (ITS). In particular, the successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge research in: Developing physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) for complex dynamical systems modeling and observer design Creating and validating digital twin architectures that incorporate physical laws and constraints Applying digital twin technology to ITS applications such as traffic management, vehicle routing, and infrastructure monitoring, as well as connected autonomous vehicles Integrating multi-modal sensor data with physics-based models Developing robust and adaptive methods for real-time parameter and state estimation Implementing machine learning approaches that preserve physical constraints while handling ITS-specific challenges Required Qualifications: The requirements for the applicants include: Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or related fields Strong background in control systems, machine learning, and scientific computing Programming proficiency and experience with simulation tools Excellent publication record in peer-reviewed journals Strong written and verbal communication skills Duration: The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and research output. About us: This post will be based in the Health Psychology Section of the Department of Psychology, at King’s College London, embedded within a dynamic team that brings together expertise in long-term condition management, complex intervention development (including digital health), randomized controlled trials, and implementation research. The Health Psychology Section has played a pivotal role in shaping the discipline within the UK and is internationally recognised for excellence in both research and teaching. Our work spans fundamental research into the psychosocial processes underlying adaptation to long-term conditions and the experience of symptoms, as well as translational research testing the efficacy and effectiveness of theory-based psychological interventions for people living with long-term conditions.  We are also at the forefront of developing and evaluating innovative methods to support self-management of health, symptoms, mood, and adherence, with a strong emphasis on digital interventions. REFUEL-MS is a £2.7 million, 5.5-year programme grant for applied research, funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and the MS Society. We are currently just over three years into the programme. The grant is led by Professor Rona Moss-Morris at King’s College London, in collaboration with the University of Northumbria, Bournemouth University, Queen Margaret University, the University of Plymouth, a Lived Experience Advisory Group, and the MS Society. The overall aim of REFUEL-MS is to integrate existing components of exercise and behavioural interventions into an individually tailored, health care professional-supported digital fatigue treatment. We have completed the first three work packages and are currently running work package 4, a randomised controlled trial to evaluate the clinical and cost effectiveness of REFUEL-MS, with completion expected by the end of 2026. The fifth and final work package will begin implementation of REFUEL-MS in four UK MS services, exploring barriers and facilitators to future adoption. The Programme Manager will play a central role in strategically managing and coordinating all work packages within REFUEL-MS. This includes overseeing the budget, ensuring that each project is delivered on time, and maintaining adherence to standard operating procedures. The role requires close collaboration with the central research team at King’s College London and the Programme Management Group, ensuring effective communication and coordination across partner institutions and stakeholders. This is a key leadership position within a complex, multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional programme. The successful candidate will need strong organisational skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and experience in overseeing large-scale research projects including clinical trials. They will be expected to support the delivery of high-quality outputs, facilitate smooth collaboration across teams, and contribute to the successful implementation of REFUEL-MS in NHS services. This is a full-time (35 hours per week) fixed term post ending on the 31st March 2028. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.  The Future Ship and System Design (FSSD) programme aims to develop strategic and innovative design capabilities for the maritime industry in Singapore and globally. Within this programme, Work Package WP2.2 focuses on research in several key areas: design Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), functional FMECA, advanced sensing techniques, sensor and operational data fusion, data analytics, and machine learning algorithms for condition monitoring, fault diagnosis, and early fault prediction in electric vessels. The primary responsibility of this role is to contribute to research in design FMECA, functional FMECA, and ship sensing, as part of the WP2.2 research team within the FSSD programme. Key Responsibilities Work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI, and research team members to manage and execute the project, ensuring that all deliverables are successfully achieved.  Key responsibilities in this project include: Developing an FMECA analysis solution that integrates condition monitoring data to update actual failure modes, effects, and severity assessments. Designing and conducting experiments to simulate various ship fault conditions, implementing sensing for data collection, and developing an equipment health monitoring system. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. The Research staff is to liaise with all relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any other adhoc duties as assigned by Supervisor. Job Requirements Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Have relevant knowledge in the areas of shipboard system design, FMECA and reliability analysis. Have a degree in Electrical Engineering/Mechanical engineering or equivalent. Knowledge of sensing, FMECA, equipment health management and programming will be advantageous. Knowledge of intelligent decision agents based on graph neural network or similar will an advantage.
