Base Salary starting from $89,755 + 17% superannuation ( Pro rata ) About the opportunity The Sydney School of Health Sciences is in a period of exciting and significant investment by the Faculty of Medicine and Health. In order to deliver on the University's ambitious strategic plan, we are seeking professionals & academics who are passionate about improving health outcomes and/or health equity in the local, national and global communities, who are committed to teaching and research, and are team players ready to contribute across the broad field of academic activities. The university is seeking to employee a Research Assistant ( HEO 5) to support the delivery of a research project which received $980K funding through the Medical Research Fund Traumatic Brain Injury mission. The project, "Enhancing Community Engagement in Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Rehabilitation Through the Social Brain Toolkit" involves developing and piloting an innovative model of care - the Social Brain Clinic. The Social Brain Clinic involves student speech pathologists and mentors with lived experience of TBI working together to provide online programs to rebuild communication skills, to people with TBI located across Australia. This role will be embedded within the University of Sydney's ABI Communication Lab (Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Communication Lab - ABI Communication Lab) - a dynamic team of researchers, academics and clinicians who are developing innovative approaches in brain injury rehabilitation. The successful candidate will play an integral role in the multidisciplinary project team. They will take on a range of responsibilities including providing practice education for speech pathology students, supporting research data collection and management, developing resources and project communications, and participating in strategic planning for sustainability of this new clinic. Your key responsibilities will be to: Provide clinical oversight to the research program with support from clinician researchers within the project team Maintains responsibility for placements being undertaken by undergraduate or postgraduate speech pathology students within the research clinic Contribute to the design and development of clinical and student training resources Assist with data collection and analysis, ensuring data quality and accuracy Collaborate with researchers, clinical specialists, and affiliated partners to share findings and progress Facilitate ongoing communication with a broad range of stakeholders, proactively addressing any concerns, and collaborating with team members to continuously improve stakeholder relations Coordinate with the team to produce quality reports, verify data accuracy within university systems, and actively engage in compliance initiatives to uphold regulations Lead by example in prioritising health and safety within daily operations, coordinate with peers for safety drills and training, and proactively identify areas for safety improvement within the work scope Undertake other duties appropriate within the classification level as required. Description The New York University Abu Dhabi Computational Approaches to Modeling Language (CAMeL) Lab seeks to hire a new Research Engineer / Technician to work in any of the lab research areas, to be involved in the development of open-source tools and resources, and to work on publications related to their work. CAMeL's mission is research and education in artificial intelligence, specifically focusing on natural language processing, computational linguistics, and data science. The main lab research areas are Arabic natural language processing (orthography normalization, grammatical error correction, morphology tagging, syntax parsing, readability assessment), machine translation, and text analytics. Since its establishment in 2014, the CAMeL Lab has produced over 200 publications and 20 language resources and tools. The lab website is http://www.camel-lab.com/. Google Scholar of the lab is at http://scholar.camel-lab.com/. The position will target the rank of Research Engineer (MS), and Research Technician (BS) with at least 3-5 years of experience. A strong preference is for individuals with (a) computer science or computer engineering degrees including previous experience in natural language processing or computational linguistics/language technologies degrees; (b) strong programming and software engineering skills, and machine learning experience; and (c) some research publication experience. Knowledge of Arabic language is preferred, but not required. Previous work on Arabic NLP is preferred but not required.
