Job Description SCHOOL OF CHINESE MEDICINE Research Assistant Professor (25260263) Applications are invited for the following posts in the Research Centre for Herb Polysaccharides and Intestinal Immunology, which is in the HKBU school of Chinese medicine: Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) is establishing the Research Centre for Herb Polysaccharides and Intestinal Immunology, aimed at exploring the medicinal potential of herb polysaccharides and their applications in promoting health. We invite passionate individuals with relevant backgrounds to join our team and collaborate in advancing research and application of herb polysaccharides. Responsibilities: Participate in research on the chemistry, intestinal immunology, and mechanisms of action of herb polysaccharides; Conduct research and development on new drugs and oral vaccines, exploring the potential of lymph-targeted therapies; Collaborate closely with industry and academic partners to translate research findings into practical applications; and Write research papers, reports, and grant applications. Requirements: A Ph.D. degree in Biology, Pharmacy, Immunology, Natural Medicinal Chemistry or related fields; Research experience in one of the areas including immunology, gut microbiome, cell biology, and/or molecular biology is desirable; Strong laboratory skills and research capabilities, with the ability to conduct independent experiments; and Team-oriented, with excellent communication skills and proficiency in English writing. The initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of up to three years. The salary offered is highly competitive. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCES A doctoral research (normally PhD) degree in electrical and electronics, mechatronics, intelligent controls, robotics engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, computer vision, mobile robotics, machine learning, data science and analytics, or be able to demonstrate an equivalent professional practice and engagement. Previous experience in coding (C/C++, Python, ROS etc) in robotics-related domains. Self-motivated for innovative teaching. Clear understanding of the philosophy and concept of Syntegrative Education (SE). Demonstrable past teaching/industry experiences or practices aligned with Syntegrative Education (SE). A commitment to Continual Professional Development in all areas of the role as an academic at the university. Ability to work, teach and research in English Strong team-work spirit. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE A good track record of engagement with business and industry. University-level teaching experience. Relevant industry experience. Appropriate research experience, including working with industry, for the corresponding academic position level. Experience in intensive teaching and problem-based learning, and a willingness to be innovative in teaching practices. An institutional builder, able to work with wider disciplines across the college.
