Nestled in the heart of the Aures mountains in Northeast Algeria, Khenchela, Abbes Laghrour University of Khenchela, a modern institution, was established in 1999 as an annex of Batna University. In 2001, it gained university centre status, incorporating schools of letters and literature and legal and administrative studies. In 2006, it earned university status, accompanied by the formation of schools of science and technology and economic, commercial, and management studies. In 2011, the university completed its comprehensive lineup, including social science and humanities and natural and life sciences. The university's name commemorates a local hero who fell victim to faction-fighting during the War of Independence in 1957. Situated alongside the N32 highway on the north side of Khenchela, approximately 300 miles from Algiers, the university accommodates nearly 14,000 students. The largest enrolments are found in the schools of letters and languages and science and technology. The university envisions itself as an inclusive institution that drives local and national development while making significant scientific contributions on an international scale. Notable research projects include a study on the distribution of scorpions, a public health concern in Algeria, within Khenchela province. The university actively publishes three academic journals and hosted a national symposium on the role of universities in countering cybercrime in 2023.

Applications are invited for Research Fellow position within the School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton. The work will involve the development of numerical simulations of high voltage cable systems, with the results written up as project deliverables and publications. These findings will directly contribute to the safe operation of the National Supergrid, contributing to the low carbon future of the UK. The successful candidate will have, or be near to completion of, a PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline with a proven track record of publishing research findings. The candidate must be motivated, and able to work independently using their initiative, but also communicate well within a team. You must be able to organize time, tasks and responsibilities with other team members. Experience with numerical methods, either analytically or by using software (e.g. COMSOL, MAGNET, Ansys) is advantageous, but not essential. Research Fellow - Active Travel to School - Surrey County Council

The role We are looking for a full-time researcher for a fixed term contract running until 31st March 2027. This post is for an embedded researcher who will be based at the University of Surrey (Environmental Psychology Research Group) and will work with, and for, the Surrey County Council (SCC) Safer Travel Team and the Surrey HDRC2 Team (Health Determinants Research Collaboration). The post’s focus will centre on a programme of work (please see accompanying details) consisting of separate projects that together share the aim of increasing Active Travel To School (ATTS1) amongst Surrey’s schools. The programme of work will commence with supporting Phase Two of the “Understanding Effectiveness & Encouraging Excellence in School Travel Planning” project, following the successful completion of Phase One. The programme of work will continue with the completion of a four-year longitudinal study that identifies school travel behaviours and their underlying motivations – the “SCC Annual School Travel Survey”. Other work includes further piloting of the STEP Tool (School Travel Effectiveness of Planning) developed in Phase One, the dissemination of findings from the SCC Annual School Travel Survey, and an exploratory audit of data collection across Surrey’s schools that employ “Hands Up Surveys” as a means of measuring changes in school travel. About you You must have a degree (MSc/PhD) and experience/interest in research focusing on understanding and changing behaviour. Experience in working in an applied research settings is highly desirable. Good communication and organisation skills are key, alongside adaptable project management skills. Skills and experience of working with quantitative survey data is important, and knowledge of qualitative methods an advantage. You will be working with the SCC teams at Surrey to support the analysis of existing data, to develop and project manage additional research, to analyse new data, and to report and present findings to a wide audience. This work has already been presented at a national convention in 2025 and the ambition is to further disseminate findings via future conference and publication activity. You will be based at the EPRG at Surrey but will work closely with SCC teams. You will be working on the various project activities for a period running to 31st March 2027 (full time). As taught postgraduate programs constitute a significant portion of our educational initiatives, those with extensive experience in teaching Master’s-level courses in mechanical engineering or closely related engineering disciplines will be highly preferred. The appointee will be responsible for high-quality teaching in mechanical engineering subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This role involves the supervision of student projects and dissertations, active contribution to course and curriculum design, and ongoing review and enhancement of academic programmes, including accreditation-related activities. He/She is expected to actively engage students in learning through interactive teaching practices and incorporate these methodologies into their teaching approach. He/She should maintain active participation in knowledge exchange, connecting with the industry and the public. He/She will also be required to contribute to the departmental administration and University services. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. About RoboPrecinct@PDD SmartPrecinct@PDD initiative aims to develop a precinct-scale robotics and embodied AI ecosystem at Punggol Digital District (PDD). The programme establishes shared digital infrastructure, regulatory frameworks (including cybersecurity and safety), embodied AI capabilities, industry collaborations, and real-world test-bedding environments to enable safe and scaled deployment of robots in PDD. The Programme Manager will lead the Programme Office and support the strategic planning, development, coordination, and governance of the SmartPrecinct@PDD programme. Key Responsibilities Programme management Reporting to the Lead PI of the SmartPrecinct@PDD programme, the Senior Programme Manager will oversee the overall execution and progress monitoring across multiple work packages in the programme. Coordinate multi-disciplinary activities to ensure alignment of technical development, infrastructure deployment, and regulatory initiatives. Support the principal investigators (PIs) to conduct technical integration between work packages where applicable. Track programme milestones, deliverables, budget, and reporting to the grantor and institution leadership. Supervise other Programme Office staff and coordinate administrative support functions. Stakeholder and governance management Lead engagement with government agencies and other stakeholders to develop governance frameworks for robot operations in PDD. Coordinate development of policies and agreements related to robot certification, data sharing, safety compliance, and cybersecurity standards. Support programme steering committees by preparing briefings, reports, and strategic updates. Ecosystem development Identify strategic collaborations with new industry and public sector partners to grow the SmartPrecinct@PDD ecosystem. Support programme expansion initiatives and new funding opportunities. Requirements Minimum Bachelor’s degree in engineering, robotics, computer science, AI, cybersecurity, or a related field. Ideally 10+ years of relevant experience in programme management, technology development, or public-sector innovation initiatives, with strong technical background in related fields. Experience managing large multi-stakeholder projects involving government agencies, industry partners, and research institutions. Strong strategic thinking and stakeholder engagement capabilities. Proven ability to manage complex programmes involving multiple technical teams and deliverables.
