Aarhus University is a well-established institution, with almost 100 years of history behind it. Since 1928, it has cultivated a reputation as a world-leading research institution, which can be seen through its regular appearance in the top 100 of many rankings. Over the years, AU has evolved into a dynamic and international, institution. Recently, Aarhus University ranked 69th in the Shanghai rankings and regarding internationalization AU is ranked in the top as well as no. 45 on Times Higher Education’s ranking as “Most International Universities in the World”.

50+ study programmes in English

12% of students here at Aarhus University are international, coming from over 120 different countries! We also have many international researchers throughout all faculties, and all our PhDs are taught in English. At Bachelor’s or Master’s level and we are proud to offer over 50 English-taught courses. English really is our second language here at AU. Additionally, we have a specialised International Centre, which can provide guidance and support on a range of topics.

Aarhus University is the largest research-based university in Denmark, and a nationwide institution with three campuses located in Aarhus, Emdrup and Herning. Many lecturers here are active researchers, meaning teaching at AU is based on recent research projects. This gives our students access to the most up-to-date findings, and ensures an excellent standard of teaching.

A comprehensive university with five faculties

There are five main faculties at Aarhus University: Arts, Business and Social Sciences, Health, Natural Sciences and Technical Sciences, with more than 38.000 students and 8000 staff.

Students are welcome to use the state of the art research facilities available in each faculty. Each faculty is highly specialised, and focused on contemporary issues. For example, the faculties of Natural and Technical Sciences are currently concentrating on sustainability and facilitating a green transition.

As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.  Job Details This Research Engineer will contribute to an international joint project related to policy-making in urban planning and design, focusing on developing a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) framework and tool. The work will involve integrating results from GeoTOPSIS and/or VectorMCDA in QGIS, enhancing spatial decision support for blue–green infrastructure and ecosystem service evaluation. The Research Engineer will lead the software development and interface programming, working closely with the GIS Research Fellow and interdisciplinary project team members to create a user-friendly, scalable decision-support tool for planners and policymakers. As part of understanding the ecosystem services that are involved in Singapore, the successful candidate will also be expected to perform some field-based data collection during the duration of the project. Key Responsibilities Work closely with the PI, Co-PI, and research team to ensure timely completion of all project deliverables. Implement and enhance GeoTOPSIS/VectorMCDA algorithms within QGIS using Python or equivalent programming frameworks. Develop a user-friendly interface (QGIS plugin or web-based application) for decision-making and data visualization. Collaborate with the GIS Research Fellow to integrate ecosystem service layers and model outputs. Conduct tool testing, validation, and iterative refinement based on stakeholder feedback. Manage documentation, data pipelines, and version control. Support system deployment on a secure project server and ensure cross-platform interoperability. Assist in project management and support the team in facilitating and organizing workshops, stakeholder sessions, and policy dialogues. Be involved in regular field work data collection and to perform environmental and biodiversity surveys (fish, birds and insects) as part of a research team. To communicate in any relevant internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any ad-hoc duties assigned by Supervisor. Job Requirements Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Geomatics, Environmental Informatics, or related fields. Strong programming skills in Python, R, or JavaScript for spatial analysis, interface development, or web applications. Experience in plugin or dashboard development (e.g., PyQGIS, Dash, Streamlit, or web-GIS frameworks). Familiarity with GIS concepts and geospatial data structures; experience with QGIS or ArcGIS will be an advantage. Ability to translate analytical models into intuitive, interactive user interfaces. Good teamwork, documentation, and problem-solving skills. Self-motivated and able to learn new tools and frameworks independently. Additional Note: While prior experience with GeoTOPSIS/VectorMCDA is not mandatory, it will be considered a strong advantage. On-the-job training will be provided to equip the candidate with necessary methods and integration workflows with ecosystem service models and spatial datasets. Key Competencies Strong programming skills (Python/R/JavaScript) for tool and interface development. Ability to implement or learn GeoTOPSIS/VectorMCDA methods in GIS environments. Good teamwork and communication skills for collaboration with the project team. Strong problem-solving ability, adaptability, and willingness to learn new tools. Good organizational and documentation skills; familiarity with GIS is a plus.

The Role and the Department The Department of Engineering is seeking a Department Manager to lead the Department's organisational and administrative functions, providing strategic support across learning and teaching, the student experience, research, finance, and impact. Working closely with the Head of Department and Senior Management Team, the post holder will contribute to business planning, help shape strategic priorities, oversee the Department's budget and resource allocation, and manage HR processes. They will also strengthen communication mechanisms, particularly through effective IT systems, and identify opportunities to enhance service quality through innovation and continuous improvement. The role includes maintaining and analysing management information, including KPIs and other performance metrics. The Department Manager will be an active member of key committees, including the Senior Management Team, Strategic Advisory Board, Board of Studies, Education Committee, Research Committee, EDI and Wellbeing Committee, and the Athena Swan SAT, as well as contributing to Faculty level and University working groups. Building strong relationships with academic colleagues, professional services teams, and external partners, including transnational partners in Wuhan, China, will be essential. The role requires balancing institutional risk with enabling academic activity, ensuring departmental readiness and the effective delivery of new initiatives. The post includes line management of a team of administrative and ancillary staff. We are looking for someone who is motivated by working in an educational environment and committed to making a meaningful contribution. The successful candidate will be highly organised, detail focused, and proactive, able to manage a varied and fast paced workload and work across multiple concurrent activities.
