Around 25 per cent of degree students and 50 per cent of academic faculty at Aalto University are international.
The university, which offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programmes in all its fields of study, describes itself as committed to "identifying and solving grand societal challenges and building an innovative future”.
Aalto University was founded in 2010 from the merger of Helsinki University of Technology, the Helsinki School of Economics and the University of Art and Design Helsinki.
The three distinct fields form the core of Aalto University, creating an innovative environment for cross-disciplinary studies and research.
The campus and its surrounds are the location for the headquarters of Finland’s largest companies’, as well as smaller enterprises. Otaniemi is also home to around 3,000 students.

NexusSoSci provides the infrastructural and technical foundations for a central service and competence center for social science research. It brings together qualitative and quantitative methodological expertise in data collection, data preparation, and data analysis. The three Senior scientists and the coordinator employed in the facility play a key role in developing the digital, material, and spatial infrastructures that supports research projects, training, and networking activities. The position will initially be based at the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Social Sciences and then transferred to a subunit following a positive evaluation. We intend to fill the position of Senior Scientist for the Online-Panel Lab from 1st of July onwards, but latest by 01 September 2026. The position is initially limited to four years. Conversion to a permanent position is generally possible, contingent on a positive evaluation and secured funding for the Core Facility. Your personal sphere of influence: The Online Panel Lab within NexusSoSci serves as the central social science service and competence center for quantitative individual-level data collections, operating an online panel recruited through random samples drawn from the Central Population Register. The Senior Scientist plays a key role by (1) establishing and advancing long-term, scientifically robust data collection via an online panel; (2) providing scientific advice on the planning of research projects; and (3) leading training and networking activities. Your personal sphere of play: The Institute of Biological Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry is seeking a Senior Scientist to work on the synthesis of microbial natural products in the Microbial Biochemistry research group, Böttcher laboratory. The position is initially limited to 4 years, with the possibility of conversion to a permanent position. In our research group, we develop chemical strategies for the tailored control of bacterial behavior with the goal of controlling the growth and pathogenic properties of certain microorganisms as well as their interactions within the human microbiome. We also investigate the chemical interactions between commensal and pathogenic bacteria as well as the chemistry of microbe-human interactions, and strive to exploit the potential of the natural products arising from these interactions through synthetic chemistry. We focus primarily on new anti-infective compounds that, for example, inhibit the production of toxins by pathogenic bacteria or, as highly selective antibiotics, inhibit the growth of only specific bacterial species. Our vision is to develop tailored chemical tools for precision interventions in the human microbiome, thereby laying the groundwork for chemical microbiome engineering in the future.
