The University of California, San Diego, commonly abbreviated as UCSD, is a public higher education institution, placed in the heart of the community of La Jolla, San Diego, United States. It was established in 1960 with donations from the city and the American aerospace corporation General Dynamics.
The institution is part of the state-wide University of California system, alongside other 9 semi-autonomous public institutions. UCSD is among the US Public Ivy colleges, whose objective is to provide students with the same quality of education as can be found in Ivy League’s private colleges.
As an important contributor in research activities, the university comprises of 6 undergraduate schools. It also features 3 graduate colleges, 2 medical centers and the famous Scripps Institution of Oceanography, which is the largest geological and marine science institute in the world.
A notable feature of the university is its numerous research institutes which receive considerable public funding. This investment has led to nearly 30,000 newly created jobs, notable profits generated from the sale of licensed technology and the launch of over 600 new companies operated by UCSD affiliates.
To maximize the level of collaboration and stimulate discussion, students and faculty members inhabit the same residential areas, part of the main university campus which is built over a 1500 acre plot of land. Students can also enjoy visiting some of UCSD’s recreational facilities, which include a eucalyptus forest, aquarium, and museum.
Student life at UCSD can be exciting for music lovers, who can attend November’s Hallabaloo music festival, which has featured acts such as Macklemore and Snoop Dogg in the past. We would like to hear from early career researchers who have recently completed a PhD related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, public health, epidemiology or health services research, with a strong research track record relative to opportunity. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in cancer research and a plan to have their postdoctoral research focused on improving equity and reducing disparities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. We are looking for applicants with experience working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.The successful applicant can either develop their own cancer research project with the support of their supervisors, if they have a particular cancer research interest, or they can choose to work on research projects from existing areas of expertise within the Daffodil and Poche Centres. The Centres have substantial methodological expertise, including in epidemiology, biostatistics, Yarning, consumer engagement research, health economics, health services research, implementation science, behavioural science, qualitative research and health policy. Job overview The Faculty of Educational Sciences invites applications for the position of professor specialised in research on teacher education. In this context, the field is broadly defined and covers the societal dimensions of teacher education, education systems, education policy and structural aspects. The focus is on curricula and pedagogical practices in teacher education, encompassing themes associated with learning as a teacher, professional development and the ethics of the teaching profession. The appointee will examine teacher education as a central element of teaching and learning across a range of educational settings and contexts, as well as in relation to equity, inclusion and social justice. The appointee is expected to conduct internationally recognised research on teacher education at different educational levels and in different contexts. We seek an established researcher in quantum science and technologies with a strong and well-developed research track record, capable of leading and expanding SUAD’s research activities in this area. The successful candidate should demonstrate sufficient academic maturity to sustain an independent research program while contributing to the development of quantum-related teaching. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and academic excellence in teaching, research, and service within the Department and across Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi (SUAD). As an accomplished scholar with a strong and internationally recognized research record in quantum technologies, the appointee is expected to develop an ambitious research program in theoretical physics and/or computer science, with a focus on quantum information and quantum technologies. Research activities may span the key pillars of quantum technologies—including quantum computing, quantum simulation, quantum metrology, and quantum communication. The appointee will collaborate closely with Sorbonne University and leading research laboratories such as LKB and LIP6 and will receive the resources needed to build and consolidate a Quantum Research Group at SUAD, including access to dedicated funding and co funding mechanisms for doctoral fellowships, as well as opportunities to host visiting scholars. Applicants should possess a Master’s degree or above in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Statistics or a related discipline. Preference will be given to those with experience in teaching statistics and research methodology, cognitive science, neuroscience, biological psychology and perception. The appointee will assist in delivering courses at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level(s), supervising students’ research projects and providing general administrative support to the Department. He/she may need to work outside normal office hours, including evenings and weekends. Those with more experience in teaching, and student consultations/supervision may be considered for the post of Demonstrator. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. For a two-year fixed-term basis, the appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary.
