The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee is one of India’s oldest universities. Founded in 1847, the institution’s roots lie in the construction of the nearby Ganga Canal, with the university founded to train engineers to carry out the construction work.

Known as Thomason College of Engineering for a century, it was granted university status through the Roorkee University Act of 1948 and renamed the University of Roorkee. In 2001, the national government made it India’s seventh Institute of Technology, and it duly received its current name, IIT Roorkee.

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee is one of the nation’s largest technical institutions, with more than 20 academic departments.

IIT Roorkee is well-known for its strong entrepreneurial culture, boasting many industry leaders among its alumni, along with dozens of MPs, state governors and government ministers. 

Situated in Northern India at the foot of the Himalayas, winter temperatures can drop as low as freezing, but average summer temperatures are around 28 °C.

The main campus is located in Roorkee, a relatively small town 175km north east of Delhi. Its 356 acres of greenery include old and new academic departments, a hospital, banks, community centres, three sports centres and accommodation. The smaller campus, housing the Department of Paper Technology, is situated in Saharanpur, some 41km north west. Both have good road and rail links.

A new 10 acre campus is being developed as an extension centre in the nearby city of Greater Noida.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL/ACADEMY/DEPARTMENT The Department of Applied Linguistics is a research-intensive environment with two MA programmes, which also contributes a Linguistics pathway on four UG programmes. We have recently established a Language and Cognition Research Laboratory, for Psycholinguistic and Phonetic research, with eye tracking technology. We contribute to several research groups, including Corpus Linguistics, Health Humanities, Language and Technology, and Language and Cognition. Linguistics at XJTLU is a rapidly expanding area. We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Assistant/Associate/Senior Professor with excellent research, teaching, and supervision qualifications who will contribute to the department’s research profile. We are specifically looking for candidates who can contribute to one of our key strategic areas: Computational Linguistics and Natural Language Processing.  Language and Health Psycholinguistics/Language and Psychology/Cognitive Linguistics Language and culture/Cultural Linguistics Theoretical Linguistics (including Syntax and/or Chinese Linguistics). Within the Science, Engineering and Technology Group of KU Leuven, the Department of Mechanical Engineering invites applications for a professorship in Mechanical Engineering. We are seeking internationally oriented candidates with an excellent research track record and strong teaching competence in numerical modelling, plasma physics, nuclear fusion, and nuclear technology. We further expect teaching competences in underlying scientific disciplines such as fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics. Junior profiles will be appointed as tenure track assistant professor, with an evaluation after 5 years. Senior candidates may be appointed at the level of associate professor, professor, or full professor, depending on their qualifications and academic experience. As a member of the senior academic staff of the Science, Engineering & Technology Group of KU Leuven's Arenberg Campus, you will be affiliated with both the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Engineering Science. Unit website Research The candidate aims to develop and apply new insights into nuclear fusion technology with a focus on advancing 2D and 3D simulation methodologies for plasma transport, heat transfer and particle exhaust in the reactor, potentially including interactions with the broader system, and other relevant mechanisms for future fusion power plants. Combining these advanced simulation techniques with design optimisation, control, data-assimilation, uncertainty quantification, and multi-fidelity approaches is encouraged. The candidate is expected to collaborate with international fusion initiatives, considering various concepts such as tokamaks, stellarators, and inertial confinement. In addition, the candidate takes a leading role in further developing the SOLPS-ITER community code (formerly B2/EIRENE), for which KU Leuven is a core developer. The candidate will be based in Leuven at campus Arenberg in the current fusion team that has strong existing ties and collaborations with major international fusion initiatives. The candidate is expected to pursue excellence, build national and international collaborations and publish at the highest scientific level in your field. By securing competitive funding for fundamental and/or applied research, the candidate should be able to establish a research group in close collaboration with stakeholders in the wider region and supervise PhD candidates at an international level. Teaching The candidate is expected to take on a teaching role in programmes such as BSc in Engineering Science, MSc in Mechanical Engineering, MSc in Engineering: Energy, or the Belgian Nuclear higher Education Network. The candidate should be able to teach courses in disciplines such as fluid dynamics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and computational fluid dynamics, in addition to more advanced topics. The candidate will build a research team (PhD researchers, postdoctoral fellows) that can support teaching within these disciplines. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to conduct cutting-edge research that enables the definition and supervision of related BSc/MSc student projects and research topics in energy or nuclear engineering. Description New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) invites applications for a Junior Research Scientist to join an exciting multidisciplinary research program investigating the environmental and ecological drivers of productive fishing grounds in the United Arab Emirates. Working in partnership with Emirates Nature–WWF and government stakeholders, the successful candidate will support marine ecological surveys, fisheries monitoring, and environmental assessments that will contribute to evidence-based fisheries management and habitat restoration. The Junior Research Scientist will become part of a multidisciplinary team undertaking ecological field surveys, environmental monitoring, habitat assessments, and fisheries research throughout the UAE. The role combines regular fieldwork with laboratory and data analysis, providing opportunities to contribute to applied research that directly supports marine conservation and sustainable fisheries management. Working closely with researchers from Mubadala ACCESS, the successful candidate will assist with the collection, processing, analysis, and interpretation of biological and environmental data, while contributing to technical reports, scientific publications, and stakeholder outputs. Responsibilities include supporting marine field surveys, including fish community assessments, benthic habitat monitoring, underwater visual surveys, and environmental sampling. The successful candidate will assist with the deployment and maintenance of environmental monitoring equipment, process biological and environmental samples, maintain accurate field records, and contribute to data management and preliminary statistical analyses. The Junior Research Scientist will also participate in laboratory activities, support field logistics and equipment preparation, contribute to technical reports and scientific publications, and assist with workshops and stakeholder engagement activities as required. Description The Mubadala Arabian Center for Climate and Environmental Sciences (Mubadala ACCESS) at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) invites applications for a Junior Research Scientist to support a multidisciplinary research program investigating the environmental and ecological drivers of productive fishing grounds in the United Arab Emirates. Working alongside researchers from NYUAD and Emirates Nature–WWF, the successful candidate will contribute to marine habitat mapping, spatial analysis, and environmental data integration to support fisheries management and marine conservation. The Junior Research Scientist will support the acquisition, processing, and analysis of marine spatial and environmental datasets collected throughout the project. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will assist in developing habitat maps, managing spatial databases, integrating environmental monitoring data, and producing analytical outputs that inform conservation planning and fisheries management. The role combines office-based spatial analysis with opportunities to participate in field surveys, environmental monitoring, and marine habitat assessments across the UAE. The successful candidate will assist with processing GIS, bathymetric, habitat, and environmental datasets, maintaining project databases, and supporting the development of habitat maps and spatial products.
