Position Description Position Title: Associate Professor (Level C)- Cyber Security Reports To: Professor / Rector Employment Type: Full-time Position Summary The Associate Professor at UNSW Bengaluru is an academic role focused on delivering high quality teaching, contributing to research, and supporting academic governance. This position is integral to the success of UNSW Bengaluru’s academic mission, ensuring that students receive a world-class education aligned with global standards. The Associate Professor plays a key role in curriculum delivery across postgraduate programs, actively engages in scholarly activity, and fosters an inclusive and a supportive learning environment. Beyond teaching, the role involves contributing to curriculum innovation, collaborating with colleagues across UNSW campuses, and participating in initiatives that strengthen academic quality and institutional reputation. The Associate Professor is expected to maintain an emerging research profile, contribute to faculty development, and uphold academic standards consistent with UNSW and University Grants Commission (UGC) frameworks, while promoting equity, diversity, and student success. Accountabilities Lead postgraduate teaching aligned with UNSW curricula and UGC standards. Design and review curriculum content, learning activities, and assessment frameworks. Mentor academic staff and contribute to faculty development programs. Supervise postgraduate coursework. Maintain a strong research profile with publications in high-impact journals. Contribute to academic governance, including committee leadership and policy development. Ensure compliance with academic integrity, quality assurance, and accreditation standards. Represent UNSW Bengaluru in academic, industry, and professional forums. Promote inclusive teaching practices and support student equity and diversity. Collaborate with UNSW Sydney faculty to ensure curriculum equivalence and research alignment. Build partnerships with industry, government, and external institutions. Support strategic planning and contribute to campus-wide academic initiatives. Uphold UNSW values and contribute to a high-performance academic culture. Ensure safe and compliant academic practices in teaching and research. Skill & Experience Completed PhD in technical cyber security, computer science with a focus on technical cyber security closely related discipline and at least 5 years of relevant work experience Demonstrated experience in teaching and curriculum development in cyber security topic areas such as cyber offence, cyber defense, digital forensics, information assurance and security, software security, and data and decision analytics for cyber security at undergraduate or postgraduate level Demonstrated experience in developing and using cyber security applications in Linux, including on cloud platforms and developing practical learning materials Experience in engaging and inspiring students from diverse backgrounds, supporting student equity and inclusion, and fostering independent learning through meaningful assessment and helpful feedback Demonstrated track record in research including publications in high impact journals, research funding and research supervision Key relationships Rector – for strategic direction, performance oversight and reporting. UNSW Sydney and Canberra Faculty – curriculum equivalence, and research collaboration. Professional Staff – including student services, admissions, and learning support for student experience and academic administration. Research Office – for grant support, ethics approvals, and research reporting. Industry and External Partners – for collaborative projects, guest lectures, and student engagement. As Director, Research Ethics and Compliance, you will provide strategic leadership for UNSW's research ethics and compliance framework, ensuring the University's world-class research is supported by best-practice governance and regulatory oversight. Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor Research, you will lead the Research Ethics and Compliance Support function and drive the strategic direction of research ethics and compliance across a complex and research-intensive environment. You will influence institutional policy, provide authoritative advice on complex ethical and regulatory matters, and help shape a culture that balances innovation, research excellence and public trust. Overseeing a broad portfolio that includes Animal Care and Ethics, Human Research Ethics, Biosafety and Radiation Safety Governance, clinical trials governance, defence trade controls and other research-related compliance activities, you will work closely with senior leaders, committee chairs, researchers, administrators and regulatory agencies to manage risk, strengthen governance frameworks and support responsible research practices across the University. As a key member of the Division of Research and Enterprise leadership team, you will lead the Research Ethics and Compliance Support unit, with responsibility for its strategic planning, operational performance, financial management and people leadership. Significant senior leadership experience across research ethics, research governance, compliance, clinical trials, biosafety, radiation safety, research security or the broader higher education research environment. Deep knowledge of the legislative, regulatory and policy frameworks underpinning research ethics and compliance. Strong commercial and operational acumen, including experience managing budgets, resources, systems and organisational performance. Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to provide trusted advice, engage diverse stakeholders and communicate complex issues with clarity and influence. The judgement, integrity and professionalism to manage sensitive matters, balance risk and opportunity, and foster a culture of ethical and responsible research. A commitment to service excellence, continuous improvement and supporting researchers across a diverse and dynamic research environment. Senior-level experience in at least two of the following areas: research ethics, clinical trials governance, biosafety, radiation safety, research security and compliance, or the higher education research environment. A strong understanding of legislation, codes, guidelines and rules relating to research ethics and safety committees and the governance of clinical trials. Excellent leadership capability, including experience initiating and leading change, influencing outcomes and applying best-practice quality assurance principles. Sound knowledge of research risk assessment in a complex environment, with the judgement, tact and discretion to navigate sensitive ethical issues, confidential matters and complaints. A strong service orientation and the ability to provide accurate, timely and trusted advice to applicants, committee members and senior management. Excellent business planning, resource management, reporting and financial management skills, including experience developing and managing budgets and resources. Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement in enterprise systems used for application processing, data management and records management. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing executive-level reports, communicating complex issues to diverse audiences and delivering professional development or training.
