Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position with Responsible AI UK (RAi UK), based at the University of Southampton. The post is full-time for 20 months, with potential for extension. The post holder will not be required to be based at Southampton but must be able to meet in person with the team once a week. You will join Responsible AI UK, a £31 million UKRI-funded national programme spanning 28 UK universities and over 150 partner organisations across academia, industry, government and civil society. RAi UK is one of the largest responsible AI research programmes in the UK, working at the interface of interdisciplinary research, policy and practice. You will work alongside the CEO, Professor Sarvapali (Gopal) Ramchurn, and the RAi UK leadership team. About the role This is an opportunity for an experienced postdoctoral researcher to work at the heart of one of the UK’s largest responsible AI programmes. The post holder will translate technical outputs from across the RAi UK portfolio and the wider Responsible AI landscape into clear, evidence-based policy advice for government, industry and the public. The research will focus on: Agentic AI systems and their governance Physical AI and its integration with real-world systems Measurement and evaluation of agentic AI performance The implications of these technologies for government, industry and the wider public The post holder will design and convene roundtables, workshops and events with senior stakeholders across UK government, regulators, industry, civil society and international partners. They will synthesise findings into white papers, policy briefings and consultation responses, and will represent RAi UK at national and international policy fora. The role may require travel across the UK and internationally. To be successful you will have: A PhD (or equivalent professional experience) in a discipline relevant to responsible AI, including computer science, AI, data science, science and technology studies, law, public policy, ethics, sociology, or political science Demonstrable experience translating technical research into policy-relevant outputs such as white papers, briefings, consultation responses or evidence submissions A strong understanding of contemporary debates in AI governance, evaluation, assurance, agentic AI and/or physical AI Experience designing and convening events or roundtables with senior stakeholders from government, industry and/or civil society Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences Willingness and ability to travel across the UK and internationally to represent RAi UK This post offers significant exposure to senior policymakers, opportunities for visible thought leadership, and the chance to shape national and international conversations on the responsible governance of agentic and physical AI. The School of Medicine are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated lecturer to be responsible for coordinating and leading key teaching activities in the Bachelor of Medical Studies/Doctor of Medicine Program (BMD), primarily within Year 3. In this program, students participate in multiple teaching activities including attending clinical placements in community and hospital settings, and undertaking Scenario Based Learning (SBL). SBL is a group-based activity that supports application of student knowledge and promotes content integration across the various curriculum domains. These domains are defined by the Australian Medical Council and are science and scholarship, professionalism and leadership, clinical practice and health and society. Work that matters In this Lecturer role, your primary responsibilities will involve Course Coordination and Scenario-Based Learning, alongside other teaching and learning roles. In semester 2, you will co-coordinate the Transition to Clinical Studies course, engaging in direct teaching, providing leadership to a broad range of academic staff, and playing a key role in student assessments. In semester 1, you will lead delivery of SBL in year 3, providing guidance to a team of casual tutors from both clinical and non-clinical backgrounds to deliver SBL sessions on a Monday and Thursday. The role also includes curriculum review and development, in conjunction with colleagues and curriculum leads. In order to meet the needs of this role, you will possess clinical experience which will allow you to integrate concepts from across the curriculum and facilitate small and large group discussion. You will also need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, as an essential aspect of this role will be to liaise with, and support, casual tutors, academics and clinical titleholders. Due to timetabling limitations, it is essential that you are available to work on both a Monday and Thursday in Semester 1, and on a Thursday in Semester 2. Curious to learn more? Description The New York University Abu Dhabi Computational Approaches to Modeling Language (CAMeL) Lab seeks to hire a post-doctoral researcher to work in any of the lab research areas, to be involved in the development of open source tools and resources, and to work on publications related to their work. CAMeL's mission is research and education in artificial intelligence, specifically focusing on natural language processing, computational linguistics, and data science. The main lab research areas are Arabic natural language processing (orthography normalization, grammatical error correction, morphology tagging, syntax parsing, readability assessment), machine translation, and text analytics. Since its establishment in 2014, the CAMeL Lab has produced over 200 publications and 20 language resources and tools. The lab website is http://www.camel-lab.com/. A strong preference is for individuals with (a) computer science or computer engineering degrees with previous experience in natural language processing; or computational linguistics/language technologies degrees; (b) strong programming skills and machine learning experience; and (c) a research publication record appropriate for the hiring rank. Knowledge of Arabic language is preferred, but not required. Previous work on Arabic NLP is preferred but not required.
