It may be noted that English is the working language and the primary medium of instruction at UM.  The Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Brain Sciences (IAIBS), currently operating as the Institute of Collaborative Innovation and scheduled for formal establishment in August 2026, invites applications for the position of Full/Associate/Assistant Professor in Data Science. IAIBS aims to become an internationally leading interdisciplinary research institute by advancing deep integration and innovation of artificial intelligence and brain sciences. It aspires to establish itself as a key hub for AI and brain science in the Greater Bay Area and globally. It is expected that high-profile research work will be carried out through these platforms to produce a number of key scientific outputs and discoveries with world influence. Qualifications Prospective applicants should have a PhD degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Data Science, or related disciplines, preferably with postdoctoral research experience from globally renowned universities, and a strong record of internationally recognized publications. The following three areas are the main priority categories but are not exhaustive; outstanding candidates in closely related areas of interdisciplinary AI and data science are also encouraged to apply: (1) AI for Science, including AI/ML for scientific discovery, foundation models for science, scientific machine learning, and AI applications in materials, chemistry, biology, healthcare, simulation, or hypothesis generation; (2) AI for Society, including AI and data science for smart cities, public health, education, sustainability, social good, human-centered AI, decision support, computational social science, or AI agents for public services; and (3) AI Governance, including responsible and trustworthy AI, AI safety, fairness, accountability, transparency, privacy, security, regulatory compliance, auditing, risk assessment, AI ethics, and data governance. Priority will be given to candidates with strong research experience and demonstrable societal, scientific, or institutional impact. The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in 2026. Remuneration A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,250,200 (approximately USD154,350) for the position of Full Professor, MOP1,052,800 (approximately USD129,980) for the position of Associate Professor and MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) for the position of Assistant Professor will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions. We are seeking a doctoral researcher to join the Micro and Quantum Systems (MQS) research group in the Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering at Aalto University. MQS currently comprises more than 18 members and is expanding. We are advancing foundational topics in quantum computing and their practical applications. In this position, you will work at the intersection of quantum computing, computational biology, genomics, and materials science. You will have the opportunity to delve deeply into quantum computing and contribute to high-quality research with real-world impact. Join us in shaping the future! Your role and goals Your primary task as a doctoral researcher is to conduct research in quantum algorithms and quantum information, leading to the completion of your PhD. You are expected to take an active role in advancing the MQS group’s research projects. Our recent work has focused on the theory and applications of quantum walk algorithms, variational quantum algorithms and their optimization, adiabatic quantum computation, and quantum machine learning. Theoretical and applied research into the capabilities of quantum computing and quantum advantage is a prospective topic across four application domains: bioinformatics, breeding, biomaterial synthesis, and cellulose‑processing enzyme design. You will develop hybrid quantum‑classical algorithms to tackle domain‑specific, computationally demanding problems. Methods will be designed for near‑term (NISQ‑era) deployment, with models evaluated for expressivity, training stability, scalability, and resource requirements on representative problem sizes, and systematically benchmarked against fully classical baselines. In parallel, medium‑ to long‑term quantum algorithms will be explored to assess quantum readiness and to establish innovative methodologies relevant to each application field. The exact research topics can be tailored to your interests within the scope of our current projects. Your goal is to produce world‑class research results, in collaboration with other group members in the lively environment of the MQS group, and to publish them in high‑impact journals. In addition to research, you will be expected to take doctoral coursework and participate in the group’s teaching activities. Applications are invited for a Fixed Term Teaching Fellow in Political Theory The ideal candidate will have the required expertise to supervise UG and PGT dissertations and teach modules primarily in political theory with the potential for some additions as appropriate. Teaching Fellowships offer the opportunity of valuable experience to those early in their academic careers and the University is keen to maximise the benefit to as many people as possible. The post of Teaching Fellow will involve a significant teaching load, which may extend into the summer period, and there may be related scholarship and the opportunity for administrative duties which relate to education and pedagogy.
