Established as the Polytechnic University of Barcelona in 1971, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia is the one of the top technical universities in Spain. In 1984, it changed its name to its current title to reflect its broader presence within the region.
The biggest engineering institution in Catalonia, UPC has performed particularly outstandingly in architecture, engineering and technology rankings but also offers courses in computer science, physics and regional planning, among other subjects.
UPC spans several Catalan cities, including Castelldefels, Igualada, Manresa, Terrassa and Vilanova I la Geltrú, but the majority of its buildings are in Barcelona. Catalonia’s capital, and the second most populous city in Spain, Barcelona is one of the most visited cities in Europe, adorned with Gaudi-inspired architecture and full of cultural and culinary delights. It has endless parks, hills and its own beach, plus lots of history and nightlife.
UPC’s North and South Barcelona campuses are located in the city’s Les Corts district, slightly north east of the Nou Camp, the biggest football stadium in Europe and home to Barcelona FC. These include the School of Architecture, the Barcelona School of Industrial Engineering, the Barcelona School of Informatics and the School of Mathematics and Statistics.
UPC’s oldest school is the Barcelona School of Nautical Studies, located near the city’s port.
The university’s official languages are Catalan and Spanish, with more than half of undergraduate courses taught in the former. But UPC also runs a number of courses in English and offers joint degrees with universities abroad, attracting especially high numbers of international students on postgraduate courses.
Programmes available in English include civil engineering, informatics engineering, health sciences and technology, applied sciences, industrial design and manufacturing and telecommunications engineering.

Simulation and Interactive Learning (SaIL) at King’s College London is an entity within Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative care that operates and maintain dedicated and technology enhanced facilities spread across different locations at King’s. Clinical education and learning are pivotal in developing and maintaining competencies in health care, by design, SaIL spaces incorporates all the elements required for technology enhanced, innovative education with a strong but not exclusive emphasis on clinical learning and simulation, serving all health faculties for healthcare simulation at King’s. About the role Reporting to Simulation Technical Specialist, working as part of the technical team, the role will provide support to academics in preparing and maintaining classrooms and clinical environment for the delivery of simulation-based education. You will also be responsible in operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining specialised equipment and technology available at the centres The role requires to provide cross-site technical cover and shift work variably between 8am-6pm or 9am-7pm, moving and handling of heavy equipment, and occasionally provide weekend support. This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract. About You To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: Essential criteria Minimum level 3 qualification (e.g. A levels, AS levels, International Baccalaureate diploma or other level 3 qualification) Experience working in a simulation centre or similar role Knowledge and experience of troubleshooting technology. Demonstrate analytical skills in troubleshooting technology and complex problems Strong planning, prioritizing & organisational skills, able to work on several tasks simultaneously under deadline. Ability to work as part of a cross functional team and individually to meet objectives Ability to learn and apply learnt techniques/skills to the work context Good communication skills, interpreting customer requests and applying knowledge of specialist clinical skills equipment to offer solutions. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an academic research project funded by HTX, where you will be part of the research team under the project titled: Occupant Tenability and Time to Flashover in Small-Sized Flats (Numerical Study Phase) Under this job, you will develop a CFD modelling platform to study effects of different ventilation factors on an occupant’s tenability when trapped in the bedroom and have a reliable time to flashover within representative HDB units. Job Responsibilities: Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Undertake these responsibilities in the project: Assists in co-supervision of final year projects (FYP) or capstone projects students under the Project PI. Meeting the deliverables by carrying out the computational simulations and experimental studies planned for under the scope of work of the projects within the timeframe to meet the deliverables. Assists the PI in drafting of reports, conference proceedings and journal articles based on the outcome of the projects. Prepares and shares fortnightly report of results from the computations with the PI. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. To communicate and liaise with any internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any other adhoc duties assigned by Supervisor. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Job Requirements: Master or Ph.D (preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Engineering or related fields. Strong knowledge and experience in flashover/building fire simulation is high advantageous. Hands on experience on experimental studies Familiarity with CFD applications working on industrial related projects using high performance computing clusters would also be advantageous Strong foundation in Fluid Dynamics Strong prior experience in CFD – particularly in building fire combustion and spread. Strong skills in turbulence modelling, CFD mesh generation in complex 3D geometries. Proficient in handling large data sets and the ability to analysis and interpret results. Experience in commercial CFD package such as FDS and ANSYS package is preferred. Candidate preferably should be familiar and have sufficient experience in using FDS and ANSYS FLUENT, Meshing tool and post-processing software.
