Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), as one of the higher education institutions that enjoy a long history and a world-renowned reputation in China, is a key university directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education (MOE) of the People's Republic of China and co-constructed by MOE and Shanghai Municipal Government. Through some 120 years' unremitting efforts, SJTU has become a comprehensive, research-oriented, and internationalized top university in China.

 

By December 2019, SJTU has had 31 schools/departments, 31 research institutions, 13 affiliated hospitals, 2 affiliated medical research institutes, 20 directly affiliated units and 5 directly affiliated enterprises, with 16,351 full-time undergraduates, 14,326 full-time master degree candidates, 8,496 full-time doctorate degree candidates, 2,837 overseas students (among which 1,698 are postgraduates). The university faculty includes 3,236 full-time teachers (among which 982 are professors), 24 members of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 23 members of Chinese Academy of Engineering.

 

SJTU has 67 undergraduate programs covering 9 major disciplines: economics, law, literature, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management and arts. SJTU ranked top 0.1% in Essential Science Indicators (ESI) in 7 research fields including Engineering (top 0.01%), Materials Science, Chemistry, Clinical Medicine, Computer Science, Pharmacology & Toxicology, and Biology & Biochemistry. SJTU is leading the country in terms of both the number of National projects (1194) and the amount of research funding (644 million) supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China. The number of research papers and international conference papers rank the first in China.

The Department of Politics and International Relations (PAIR) at the University of Southampton, UK, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher (100% FTE) to join the Horizon Europe project PLEDGE. This interdisciplinary project, spanning from February 2024 to January 2027, delves into the emotional expressions of grievance politics and implications for democratic governance and political mobilization. Led by Dr. Tereza Capelos, Professor in Political Psychology at PAIR, the Southampton team is at the forefront of groundbreaking research aimed at understanding the emotional dynamics shaping contemporary political landscapes. Project Overview: Website: More information is available at the PLEDGE website: https://www.pledgeproject.eu/   Responsibilities: Engage in conceptual and empirical research on emotionality in politics, focusing on themes such as grievance politics, ressentiment, anti-democratic support, affective polarisation and populist politics  Utilize a range of quantitative and qualitative methods, including experiments, longitudinal surveys, and interviews to explore the role of emotions in political preferences and policy dynamics  Analyse research findings and disseminate results through academic publications, conference presentations, and other dissemination activities  Contribute to project organization and participate in project-related events and activities  Attend regular meetings with the local project team and the European consortium  Contribute to the intellectual life of the University of Southampton through participation in seminars, workshops, and departmental meetings  Disseminate information about PLEDGE research outputs through electronic and social media, as well as in written form.  Selection Criteria: Applicants must meet the following criteria: Hold a PhD in Political Science or Psychology, focusing on the psychological dynamics of emotionality in the context of grievance, populist politics, and challenges to democracy, using experimental and quantitative methods. Demonstrate an emerging publication record in key debates on emotionality, ressentiment, grievance politics, and populism. Possess expertise in the design, implementation, and analysis of experiments and the ability to analyse survey and interview data using STATA, SPSS, R,Nvivoand other quantitative and qualitative data analysis packages. Exhibit project management and data management skills, preferably in the context of quantitative projects. Show active engagement with the field of political psychology through participation in conferences, workshops, and other knowledge exchange events. Have proficiency in English, with proficiency or near-proficiency in German, Greek, Spanish, Swedish, Finish, Hungarian, Dutch, French, or Turkish being desirable. The Federal Legislation Clinic at Georgetown Law is hiring a Teaching Fellow for a two-year term starting in the summer of 2026. Georgetown is home to the preeminent clinical legal education program in the country, and the Federal Legislation Clinic is one of the premier legislative clinics in the nation-operating just steps away from Capitol Hill. The Clinic trains law students to be "legislative lawyers" at the intersection of law and politics through pro bono representation of nonprofit client on critical legislative issues before Congress. The FellowshipThe Fellow will serve for two years, with increasing responsibility as the fellowship continues.
