Men lag behind women in their enthusiasm for work until they are within sight of retirement, researchers have found. The scientists, from the University of Portsmouth, discovered that men start their working lives with far less "employee engagement", which continues throughout most of their careers until near the end when it takes a dramatic leap. The study was carried out by Darren Van Laar and Simon Easton, who both work for Portsmouth spin-out company QoWL Ltd. They said their findings should encourage employers to keep older, more experienced workers.
