University of Glasgow - Black and write

The start of Black History Month was marked with a lecture on 6 October at the University of Glasgow on how Scottish writing by African and Asian authors has changed the literary landscape. Willy Maley, professor of Renaissance studies at Glasgow, said that Leila Aboulela, award-winning author of Minaret (2005), raised questions of race, religion and representation that were essential to contemporary culture. The next lecture, "Glasgow University, Slavery and Abolition", will be given by historian Stephen Mullen on 20 October.
