The University of East Anglia has become the first university outside the United States to receive an award from the Institute for Study Abroad Foundation, an American funding body set up to support students studying overseas. UEA has been granted $100,000 (£66,000) to offer scholarships to students within its School of American Studies who are studying in the US as part of their course. Christopher Bigsby, professor of American studies, said: "These scholarships will help students fund their year abroad, and maintain and increase the numbers going on programmes. This in turn will keep the door open for American students to come to UEA on their junior year abroad."
