Rhodes University is a small university in the Eastern Cape of South Africa and was founded in 1904. It was founded as Rhodes University College and became a college of the University of South Africa in 1918 before gaining independent university status in 1951. The institution was named after former prime minister, Cecil Rhodes. Across 203 hectares, the university is nestled in the hills of Grahamstown, a beautiful, historic city filled with stone buildings. Grahamstown is 50-minutes from the sea and 90 minutes from the Winterberg Mountains. Students can undertake a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses, and have access to academic staff and close supervision throughout their studies. The university has six main faculties including commerce, education, humanities, law, pharmacy and science. Around 30 per cent of the student body is postgraduate and 20 per cent are international students from 54 countries across the world. Around half of undergraduates at Rhodes University stay in university residences. The campus itself is small enough for students to walk around without a car.

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently seeking an academic with expertise in Landscape Architecture, and we will consider applicants from entry level to senior academics, to join the exciting, new Wellington Institute of Zhengzhou University joint educational partnership in Zhengzhou, China, on a permanent, full-time basis. The level of appointment, either Pūkenga - Lecturer, Pūkenga Matua - Senior Lecturer, or Ahonuku - Associate Professor, will depend on the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications. This role is based in China full-time and teaching is to be conducted in English. As this is an international programme, we welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates from New Zealand and overseas. Key responsibilities: Academically rigorous teaching across undergraduate level. Contribution to the collegial development of the programme, School, and Faculty. On-going research activity appropriate for career stage. Senior appointments may be asked to contribute to programme leadership. Ō pūmanawa - About you You will be passionate about teaching landscape architecture in a contemporary international context to a diverse range of Chinese students and appreciate the importance of teaching and learning best practice.  You will have excellent oral and written communication skills in English as well as excellent interpersonal skills. You will ideally have demonstrated expertise in teaching and research or the practice of landscape architecture design studio and sustainability issues. The successful candidate will preferably have a PhD, but must have a Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline. This position is one of the first appointments being made to this joint institute where the appointees will be based in China. About us The Department of War Studies seeks to appoint a Lecturer in International Law and Politics (Education). The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality, innovative and effective undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in international law and politics, ethics, war crimes, international justice, and peace and conflict studies. About the role  The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching, supervision and student support across a range of BA and MA programmes and modules, for example, our MA Peace, Security and International Law programme and modules such as MA ‘International Law and War’, BA2 ‘International Law, Human Rights and Intervention’, BA3 War and Genocide’ and BA3 ‘Contending with Legacies of Violence and Atrocity’. They will also be expected to contribute to leadership in teaching and curriculum development through module leadership and design and convening. The successful candidate will work with students from a wide range of backgrounds and will be responsible for enabling student success. The postholder will also engage in reflective practice and scholarship related to education in their disciplinary field, publish in peer-reviewed journals, engage with internal and external discussions and the dissemination of teaching innovations and initiatives, and seek internal and external funding. They will be expected to participate in relevant professional associations and networks and engage in public outreach, to play a role in the institutional and intellectual development of War Studies and to undertake Departmental, School, Faculty and University administrative duties as required. This is a full-time post on an indefinite (open-ended) academic contract on the Academic Education Pathway (AEP). The AEP is designed to ensure the recognition, reward and opportunities for advancement for exceptional educators.
