University of Wales, Lampeter - Vice-chancellor retires

Robert Pearce has left his job as vice-chancellor of the University of Wales, Lampeter. Professor Pearce was appointed vice-chancellor in October 2003. He is understood to have been on sick leave since June, when news emerged that a report on the university, commissioned by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, had strongly criticised senior management. Gwyndaf Tobias, the director of finances who is now acting vice-chancellor, said Professor Pearce had retired.
