Institute of Education - Sex discrimination claim settled

Allegations of sex discrimination against the director of the Institute of Education have resulted in an out-of-court settlement. As reported by Times Higher Education in June last year, Geoff Whitty was set to face public allegations of sex discrimination and constructive dismissal from one of his most senior colleagues, Loreto Loughran, former pro-director of the IoE, who walked out last summer in protest against her alleged treatment after 13 years' service. In a statement released this week to Times Higher Education, Stephen Taylor of Dr Loughran's solicitors Coyle White Devine said the proceedings had been "withdrawn by consent". "All matters between the parties have been resolved to their mutual satisfaction. As a result, Dr Loughran will not be pursuing any claims against the institute or its director," the statement says. "None of the parties will make any further comment. However, all parties wish their former colleagues well for the future."
