It has particular research strengths in aesthetics, ethics, Chinese philosophy, metaphysics, philosophy of mind, philosophical logic, philosophy of science, and political philosophy. In addition to having a thriving research community, the department will be launching a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Philosophy and AI Programme from 2025-26 and offers the Master in Arts 'Artificial Intelligence and the Future' in conjunction with the Hong Kong Catastrophic Risk Centre (HKCRC). Requirements The Department seeks to appoint a Research Assistant Professor with expertise in ethics (especially in relation to population axiology, the ethics of technology, and related philosophical problems). Candidates should have a PhD in Philosophy (or related disciplines) by the start of the appointment, a record of publications in Philosophy, preferably in leading journals, and demonstrated capacity to obtain governmental grants. Candidates should have obtained/been conferred a PhD degree or an equivalent qualification for no more than five years prior to the commencement of the appointment. The appointee is expected to conduct focused research in ethics, publish scholarly outputs in respectable refereed international journals, and apply for competitive peer-reviewed grants offered by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council, other local/overseas competitive grants and/or fellowship schemes. Teaching experience at both undergraduate and taught master’s programme levels, as well as recipient of external grants (e.g. from a government body) is a definite advantage. Research: The Research Assistant Professor will (i) carry out research and submit papers to top journals in the field of ethics (e.g., including 3*/4*-ranked journals as per the current departmental journal list), (ii) submit grant proposals to various funding bodies, (iii) organize seminars, reading groups, workshops or other related research activities (especially in relation to new departmental initiatives) and (iv) provide support to the research community of the Hong Kong Catastrophic Risk Centre (HKCRC). Teaching: The teaching load will be three courses per year, distributed according to the needs of the Department and upon mutual agreement. English will be the language of instruction. The appointee may be required to teach courses on both undergraduate and taught postgraduate level, and to supervise students' capstone projects. About Us The GSTT Asthma Service based at Guy’s Hospital is home to the largest cohort of severe asthma and EGPA patients receiving biologic therapies in the UK offering a unique opportunity to take part in translational research in these diseases. The Jackson Lab within the Peter Gorer Department of Immunobiology, SIMS is focussed on (i) exploring the role of eosinophilic and T2 inflammation in asthma and related conditions both in the stable state and during exacerbation (ii) understanding the mechanisms that underpin the heterogeneity in response to anti-T2 therapies in asthma and conditions including EGPA and eosinophilic pneumonia. Over the last 5 years the Jackson Lab has obtained over £5m in grant funding and published over 50 original research manuscripts About the role This role is for a scientist who has obtained a PhD and has already accumulated some post-doctoral experience in the field of type 2 immunity as applied to asthma and related upper and lower airway conditions. The applicant should have a thorough understanding of respiratory immunology and particularly eosinophilic and T2 immune pathways including mast cell, Th2, ILC2 and epithelial related processes in asthma. It is expected that the scientist has first-hand experience of processing and analysing airway samples including cell culture. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of respiratory immunology and particularly eosinophilic and T2 immune pathways in diseases such as asthma. The scientist should have first-hand experience of processing and analysing airway samples including cell culture. The successful applicant will be joining a well-established and highly productive clinical and translational asthma research group at King’s College London based on the Guy’s Hospital Campus. The Jackson Lab is closely integrated into the regional NHS Severe Asthma and EGPA clinics allowing access to airway and blood samples from a large cohort of patients. This group has led on several large multicentre phase 3 and phase 4 clinical trials of biologic therapies in asthma as well as real world studies of biologic therapies in both asthma and EGPA. The applicant will work alongside clinical fellows undertaking mechanistic projects in severe asthma as well as other post-doctoral scientists working in this group. They will lead on several aspects of ongoing mechanistic projects aligned to phase 3 and phase 4 clinical trials of biologic therapies in asthma. This is a full time post 35 hours per week, and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31/12/27. About You To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: Essential criteria PhD qualified in relevant subject area * Experience with airway cell culture Comprehensive understanding of T2 immunity in asthma Experience with airway proteomics and transcriptomics * Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. Description The Center for Sand Hazards and Opportunities in Resilience, Energy, and Sustainability (SHORES) and the Division of Engineering, New York University Abu Dhabi, seek to recruit a Post-Doctoral Associate to work on a fascinating project focused on the geomechanical modeling for energy applications. The position will be directly supervised by Professor Mostafa Mobasher and will involve strong collaboration with the SHORES multidisciplinary research teams. The project will be focused on advanced modeling of coupled fracture/damage of geomechanical materials when subjected a range of multiphysical loading regimes including hydraulic, thermal, and chemical processes. The direct applications of these research will be aimed at enhanced modeling of hydraulic fracturing and carbon sequestration. The project activities will involve the development of the theory and implementation of the advanced mechanics and numerical models as well as constitutive model calibration and validation based on physical experimental data. Required Qualifications: A successful applicant must have a PhD in Engineering Mechanics, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. Applicants are expected to demonstrate research experience in the fields of computational mechanics and computational geomechanics.
