Southern Medical University formerly known as First Military Medical University of the People’s Liberation Army, was founded in 1951. It was honored as a national key university in 1979, and was renamed Southern Medical University in 2004. Now the university, as one of the first universities in China that have been sponsored jointly by the Ministry of Education, the National Health Commission and Guangdong Province, is a key university in “the Construction Project of High-level Universities” in Guangdong Province.

With 21 schools offering 29 undergraduate programs, including 7 national featured majors, and 23 national construction sites of first-class undergraduate majors, the university recruits students from 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities as well as the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao. At present, it is home to 14,169 full-time undergraduate students, 8,868 graduate students, and 1,008 international students.

We boast 10 first-level doctorate disciplines, 8 post-doctoral research stations and 5 national key disciplines, with 12 disciplines having entered the top 1% of ESI world ranking, and Clinical Medicine, Pharmacology and toxicology having entered the top 1‰ of the world ranking.

We are one of the pilot universities in China to offer an eight-year medical program, one of the pilot colleges and universities to offer “the excellent medical education programs”, and one of “the national training bases of top-level students of Basic Medicine”. The university has won 10 national teaching achievement awards. In the National Medical Practitioner Qualification Examination, the pass rate of the Clinical Medicine students has ranked 4th in China at the best time, and the pass rate of the Traditional Chinese Medicine students has ranked the top for three times.

Among its faculty, there are 4 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, 4 “Nationally Renowned Teachers”, 761 doctoral supervisors and 1,322 master’s instructors.

With 102 scientific research platforms at the provincial, ministerial, or national levels, the university has won 2 Second Prizes of National Natural Science, 1 Second Prize of National Technological Invention, 15 Second Prizes of National Scientific and Technological Progress, and 1 Excellence Award of National Patent. Furthermore, 4 scientific and technological achievements were selected as “Ten National Progress of Science and Technology”. The Journal of Southern Medical University, which has been awarded the title of “100 Best Academic Journals in China” for 8 successive years, dominates the No.1 position among all journals of medical universities in China.

Our 15 directly affiliated hospitals have 25 national key clinical specialties, 79 provincial key clinical specialties, and 15 provincial medical quality control centers, and serves over 17 million patients per year. Among the directly-affiliated hospitals, Nanfang Hospital and Zhujiang Hospital have been selected into the Summit Program of high-level hospital construction in Guangdong Province, and TCM-Integrated Hospital has been selected into the “National Innovation Project of Traditional Chinese Medicine Heritage”.

We have established intercollegiate cooperation with 63 internationally well-known universities, medical and research institutions in 21 countries and regions, having carried out exchange and cooperation activities of various forms.

The Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (SCTU) is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Administrator to provide comprehensive operational assistance, to support the transition over to the new (R3) Clinical Trial regulations, as well as supporting the Senior Administrator and Executive Assistant to provide administrative and secretarial support to the Director and Senior Leadership Team at SCTU. We work at the forefront of innovative clinical research, taking discoveries from the laboratory into the clinic to provide the treatments and medical interventions of the future. Our team has expertise in the design, conduct and analysis of multi-centre, interventional clinical trials and other well-designed studies. We work in partnership with investigators to deliver high-quality trials that will directly influence clinical practice. We are a UK Clinical Research Collaboration registered CTU that receives core funding from Cancer Research UK with additional funding from the NIHR Southampton Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) and is part of the South Central NIHR Research Support Service (RSS). Working from our SCTU offices, based at Southampton General Hospital, you will be responsible for providing administrative support to the Associate Directors including diary management, meeting organisation and travel arrangements. You will be proactive and computer literate, able to produce digital documents for internal and external presentation. You will need to be able to work well as part of a team, with excellent communication skills and the ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining close attention to detail along with an interest in supporting the development of health research and professionals in the UK. Acting as the first point of contact for all visitors to the SCTU, you will provide a full range of confidential administrative support, offering advice in more complex matters, as well as reporting progress of sponsorship requests and regulatory transitions to the Head of Quality Assurance (QA) and the SCTU Director. You will have relevant qualification and substantial experience in similar roles in complex organisations. With high level IT skills, excellent accuracy, communication and organisational skills, you will be able to independently organise activities and refine processes according to strategic and management plans, accompanied by the ability to prioritise workload. The ability to use your initiative is essential. You must have experience of handling highly confidential and sensitive information and dealing effectively with a range of external stakeholders including students, patients, and members of the public. About us  The post is based in the Centre for Society and Mental Health, a cross-Faculty initiative between the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy (SSPP) and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN). The centre aims to better understand the complex interrelationships between society and mental health, with a commitment to: Ensure that the impact of social context is central to how we understand mental health;  Work in partnership with affected communities.  About the role  This is an opportunity to do important research on mental health, work and the benefits system, which both contributes to public/policy debates, and provides high-quality contributions to academic debates. You will work closely with Prof. Ben Geiger and Prof. Karen Glaser as part of the Centre’s ‘Work, Welfare Reform and Mental Health’ programme. This involves collaborating closely with an interdisciplinary team of researchers as well as the Centre’s academic and community partners, as part of the Centre’s wider ethos of coproduction.  Using your experience in quantitative data analysis, you will examine the links between mental distress and work, care and welfare. You will take forward some selected pre-existing projects (e.g. on the relationship between mental distress and the evolving nature of work), can choose to contribute to other existing projects (e.g. the WelfareExperiences project), and take forward new ideas of your own that relates to these topics. There is an expectation that the post holder will develop independent research (including fellowship applications), with the support of Ben, Karen and the wider Centre. The post holder will commit 0.2 FTE of their time to the delivery of teaching in their faculty. This will be agreed with your line manager and may include teaching on a module and supervising dissertations and student projects.  This is a full time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until April 2028 in first instance, view to extending subject to funding. About you We are asking candidates to demonstrate their experience on the following criteria: PhD, or in the final stages of obtaining a PhD, in a relevant area of social science (e.g., social policy, economics, demography, sociology, social statistics, social epidemiology).
