Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan is a private university that was founded in 1993. It was given general accreditation by the Jordanian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The university is located in Amman, the capital and largest city of Jordan. The university is organised into eight faculties: the faculty of science and information technology, faculty of pharmacy, faculty of nursing, faculty of arts, faculty of business, faculty of law, faculty of engineering and technology, and the faculty of architecture and design. Each faculty is subdivided into specialised departments, which offer a range of both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes. Although Arabic is the university’s official language of instruction, all faculties offer a number of courses taught in English. Like all other universities in Jordan, Al-Zaytoonah uses the credit-hour system, which is based on the number of contact hours students receive. This system gives students the freedom to choose courses according to their study interests and goals. The Foreign Relationships Office is responsible for overseeing the university’s international operations, agreements, grants and scholarships. It also organises the academic exchange and study abroad programmes that the university offers to its students. The office has currently developed partnerships with higher education institutions from 28 Arab and foreign countries.

The University of Vienna Centre for Translation Studies (ZTW) is looking for a German and English-speaking prae-doc candidate to join the HAITrans (Human and Artificial Intelligence in Translation) research group and contribute to the group’s "Investigating the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the Language Services Industry", "Improving the quality of Translation/Revision/PEMT output by using automatic speech tools and LLMs", and "Cognitive investigations of Translation/Revision/PEMT practices" research themes. The candidate will have access to the HAITrans eye-tracking lab, as well as the UniVie computing facilities, and will contribute to the research, teaching and administrative activities of the ZTW under the supervision of the HAITrans research group leader Univ.-Prof. Dragoș Ciobanu, PhD. Your personal sphere of influence: Your future position is within the HAITrans research group (https://haitrans.univie.ac.at/) based in the University of Vienna Centre for Translation Studies. HAITrans investigates the behavioural and cognitive effects which technologies such as large language models, machine translation, and automatic speech recognition and synthesis have on translators, as well as their impact on the profession, practice, training and society at large. This position is limited until 31.03.2030. Your future tasks: You actively participate in research, teaching, and administration, which means: You are involved in research projects and scientific studies connected to the group's "Investigating the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the Language Services Industry", "Improving the quality of Translation/Revision/PEMT output by using automatic speech tools and LLMs", and "Cognitive investigations of Translation/Revision/PEMT practices" research themes. About the Role Working closely with the Chief Investigator and the collaborative Research Team in an in-person laboratory environment, you will undertake research in the neuroscience of ageing using the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to project design and implementation, the analysis of data, and the preparation of manuscripts for publication. Actively contributing to the research project by collaborating with the Research Team to successfully deliver project milestones and Key Performance Indicators. Independently contributing to the planning and execution of research by offering new and innovative ideas, reviewing relevant literature and other sources of information, actively participating in the production of data, contributing to the writing and editing of grant applications and attending seminars, meetings and conferences. Playing a lead role in coordinating, planning and executing the project tasks required to collaborate with industry partners. Independently contributing to ethical, high quality and innovative research and evaluation through activities such as scholarship, publishing in recognised high quality journals and assisting the preparation and submission of bids for external research funding. About You You are an experienced Researcher specialising in C. elegans nematode research methodology, with a passion for inspiring the next generation of Researchers, evident through your experience successfully supervising PhD and/or undergraduate students. You will also demonstrate the following: Completion of a PhD in Neuroscience or related field (note that 3 years post PhD experience is desirable). Experience in C. elegans nematode research methodology including: 1) maintenance, 2) ageing experiments, 3) behavioural experiments (such as automated locomotion tracking), and 4) preparation of proteomics samples for western blotting and mass spectrometry experiments. Please note that experience with nematode culture and behavioural experiments is essential. Significant experience in confocal microscopy and automated image analysis using software such as IMARIS. Extensive research experience in terms of outputs in high quality publications, attraction of competitive internal/external grants as lead investigator, and presentations at a national and international level in neuroscience. About you Essential Skills and Experience Experience working in a laboratory environment, ideally within histopathology, clinical pathology or a related discipline. Proven experience of working safely within a laboratory environment, with a sound understanding of COSHH regulations. Ability to maintain accurate records and follow established procedures.
