Description The Research Center on Stability, Instability and Turbulence (SITE) a center of the Research Institute, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Post-Doctoral Associate to work in the fluid mechanics laboratory for experimental fluid dynamics.  SITE is inviting applications for fully-funded postdoctoral research associate positions. SITE is highly interdisciplinary and aims to develop novel enabling technology on hydrodynamic stability analysis that has applications in the study of the development of singularities, the long-time behavior of complex systems, the formation of spatial patterns, the transition between stability and instability, and the first steps of transition towards turbulence that appear in several disciplines across science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and innovation. Candidates must hold (or be close to completing) a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Physics and Applied Physics or a related field. Working in a newly established fluid dynamics laboratory at NYU Abu Dhabi, candidates are expected to have a strong interest in experimental research and collaborate with applied mathematicians closely. Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position for a contract starting in March 2026 and ending in December 2027 (22 months). The position is open at the Department of Microbiology located in Viikki campus in Helsinki, Finland. Position description The successful candidate will work within the research project “From Clay to Code: Investigating Microbial Evolution in Response to Human Influence” funded by the Helsinki Institute of Life Sciences (HiLIFE). The project aims to establish a scientific foundation for investigating viable ancient bacteria recovered from archaeological ceramics to determine the evolutionary trajectories and adaptation mechanisms of the isolated bacteria under anthropogenic influences. Advances in ancient DNA techniques have substantially increased our understanding of past human populations, other animals as well as on ecology and evolution of microbial diseases. However, dormant forms of microbes that can persist for extremely long periods of time in the right conditions, may also act as windows to the past. In this work we will compare ancient and modern bacteria with various methods. By integrating the findings with archaeological knowledge, the goal is to elucidate bacterial genetic evolution that was shaped by human influence and make predictions to the future. The work provides the possibility to develop skills in microbiology, data analysis, bioinformatics and molecular dating methods in an international and multidisciplinary setting and gain a competitive academic CV. The Postdoctoral Researcher is expected to: Advance the research project together with the team Participate in future funding application preparations for the project The work may also include teaching duties (10-20 % of annual working time). Requirements and eligibility criteria  The appointee shall hold a doctoral degree in microbiology or bioinformatics (or a related field) and have the ability to conduct independent scholarly work. The degree requirement (doctoral degree) must be met by the beginning of the employment. Other requirements are a good computational background (basic knowledge of R, Python or Bash programming languages) as well as experience in analysing sequencing data with cluster computing environments. Experience with molecular dating methods and nanopore sequencing is considered an advantage. Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written, are expected. Salary and benefits The salary is defined in accordance with the University’s salary system for teaching and research personnel. The Postdoctoral Researcher’s salary is based on level 5 of the job requirement scheme for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research (INAR) is a multi- and interdisciplinary research unit based in physics, chemistry, meteorology, forest sciences, environmental sciences and social sciences in the University of Helsinki. INAR aims to strengthen the internationally leading, integrated multidisciplinary research and education environment for atmospheric and Earth system science and to feed in scientific results for the national and international environment and climate policy. It performs multiscale research from molecular to global scale and focuses on climate change, air quality, biogeochemical cycles and ecosystem processes. INAR has INAR Finland Network partners in Finnish Meteorological Institute, University of Eastern Finland and Tampere University of Technology.  Faculty of Science invites applications for   POST-DOCTORAL AND DOCTORAL RESEARCHERS TO THE ORCTOOL PROJECT    Starting spring 2026 for a full-time fixed-term contract of two to four years depending on the position. The hired researchers will work as part of the computational aerosol group at INAR. The computational aerosol physics group uses computational and theoretical methods to understand cluster and particle formation for atmospherically relevant molecules.   ORCTOOL (Organic Cluster Tools) aims to create a toolbox for understanding and cost-effectively predicting the rate of massively multicomponent organic, or organic-enhanced, new-particle formation in the atmosphere. We will combine our molecular-level model development  with machine learning and artificial intelligence methods, targeted validation experiments. The project is funded by The Research Council of Finland. In the first stages of the project the research tasks include test and extend group contribution methods for predicting aerosol-relevant bulk properties such as pure-compound saturation vapor pressures develop suitable representations (descriptors) for both the clusters and their building blocks to facilitate efficient use of machine learning method for predicting cluster stabilities test, validate, and extend the cluster-of-functional-groups approach to predict whether and how strongly the organic vapour enhances clustering of driven by inorganic molecules model cluster formation in ‘clean’ engine exhaust driven by lubricants and their additives, involving also nitric acid formed from emitted NOX,   sulphuric acid as well as catalyst-created ammonia. The applicant should: Hold a doctoral or master degree in relevant field such as physics or  chemistry; Have good programming skills and interest in code development;  Have excellent skills in spoken and written English;   Research interests close to the project scope and prior experience of computational physics and/or chemistry as well as machine learning/artificial intelligence are a merit.  The appointee for the doctoral researcher position should either already have the right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Helsinki by the start of the appointment or apply for the right and obtain it within the trial period of six months of their appointment. Clinical Research Associate in the Department of Psychosis Studies

About us This is an exciting opportunity to gain and develop research skills. The post-holder will join Dr Tom Pollak’s research group and play a key role in innovative studies taking a new immunologically focussed approach to understanding and treating neuropsychiatric disorders. The group is investigating how the immune system may hold clues to how psychosis and other psychiatric disorders are caused and how people respond to treatments. We will investigate blood and cerebrospinal fluid from patients and use machine-learning to identify the treatment-relevant immune processes, with an emphasis on immune cells, autoantibodies and inflammatory markers. If we can show causal links, our work could guide future targeted immune-based interventions. The studies involve subject recruitment and collection of clinical data and bio samples (blood and cerebrospinal fluid) from patients. The main focus is on an exciting new prospective, longitudinal study aiming to assess the immunological effects of antipsychotic treatment. It is being led by a team from KCL and the Francis Crick Institute and is unique for its interdisciplinary nature, combining expertise from clinical psychiatry, immunology and neuroscience, with significant ongoing input from people with lived experience of psychosis. The post-holder will have a central role in the team and will contribute to its dynamic, friendly and supportive culture, and to its strong spirit of multidisciplinary scientific enquiry. The Department of Psychosis Studies is one of the world’s leading centres for research into psychotic disorders. We aim to advance the understanding and treatment of psychotic disorders across all stages to improve the lives of patients and their families. About the role The purpose of this role is to deliver exciting and innovative research studies in the Department of Psychosis Studies. Working closely with the Lead Investigators, the post holder will ensure the successful conduct and completion of the research programme. They will contribute to the collection and analysis of data and play a key role in the assessment and monitoring of participants. They will also work closely with other research staff in the project and foster effective collaborative working relationships with the local and regional services for psychosis, as well as neurology, rheumatology and neuropsychiatry services. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to deliver teaching on immunopsychiatry topics and will have the opportunity to join a unique and growing clinical immunopsychiatry service. The post-holder will have opportunities to get involved in data analysis and develop their research interests within the projects. Training in research methods will be provided, and the post-holder will develop skills in using gold-standard diagnostic and clinical ratings, which will be useful for future research and clinical practice. The post would be ideal for a clinician with an interest in the rapidly expanding field of immunopsychiatry. There is potential to develop a project for a PhD application for a suitable candidate. The start date is flexible and may be negotiated with the right candidate. This is a full-time post (40 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 12 months with possibility to extend.
