Eskisehir Osmangazi University was initially established on 18 August 1993 after the departments of architecture, engineering, medicine, letters and science were moved from the Anadolu university to lay the foundation of a new institution. Later in the year 2005, the name of Osmangazi University was subsequently replaced with Eskisehir Osmangazi University. Located in ancient city of Eskisehir, which in Turkish translates as “Old City”, the university spreads over a large area and includes 12 faculties, four vocational schools, four institutes and 32 application and research centres. Popularly referred to as ESOGU, the Eskisehir Osmangazi University is a key state university of Turkey which runs both graduate and undergraduate programs in various disciplines ranging from medicine to art and design. The university is also a member of the Caucasus University Association, which includes top universities from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iran and Northern Cyprus. The university has more than 100 student clubs and even runs programmes like distant learning and has established itself as key regional research university in Turkey. The campus offers opportunities for various indoor and outdoor recreational activities ranging from theatre, literary thought club, law and virtue club and American football. The Disability Support Office at Eskisehir Osmangazi University provides service for the needs of the disabled students of our University. A public university at the heart of the “university town” of Eskisehir, the Eskisehir Osmangazi University is well-known for its extensive research-intensive education and has a strong academic reputation in the region. The FaceMatch project (facematch.org.au) is a Genomic Mission MRFF funded study. This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of genomics, data science, and clinical research, with the potential to directly improve diagnostic outcomes and early intervention for children and families. Core responsibilities Coordinate the design, implementation, and evaluation of AI-enabled facial image analysis within a large-scale longitudinal child health study, supporting the development of a screening model to triage children with features suggestive of a genetic syndrome for early developmental assessment and genetic testing. Manage the development of a national phenotyping and genomic data resource, integrating facial features with genomic and diagnostic information from individuals with intellectual disability, both diagnosed and undiagnosed. Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of AI-enhanced facial image analysis to support variant interpretation and novel gene discovery in children with syndromic intellectual disability who remain undiagnosed following exome sequencing. Foster national collaboration through secure and ethical data-sharing practices with clinicians, researchers, and health consumer communities. Contribute to knowledge translation and dissemination through publications, presentations, and engagement with consumer groups. To be successful in this role, you will have: Expertise: Completed a doctoral qualification in computer vision, machine learning, digital health or a related area with strong programming skills. While most moderate to severe cases are caused by single-gene variants, more than half of affected individuals remain undiagnosed despite advances in genetic testing. A timely molecular diagnosis is critical—not only to guide management, reduce unnecessary investigations, and enable access to clinical trials, but also to give families clarity, reduce isolation, and support reproductive decision-making. Facial features often hold important clues to the underlying genetic cause of intellectual disability. The FaceMatch platform is a world-first, award-winning initiative, co-designed with clinicians, researchers, and families, to improve diagnostic accuracy and discover new genes. Unlike other tools, FaceMatch allows parents to contribute images across the age spectrum, making it uniquely suited to clinical practice and large-scale research. The Faculty of Humanities invites applications for the position of PROFESSOR OF RUSSIAN for a fixed-term appointment from 1 August 2026 to 31 December 2029. The position is based at the Department of Languages. The appointee’s duties include conducting and supervising research on the Russian language, delivering research-informed teaching, following developments in scholarship, and participating in public engagement and international collaboration in the field. The appointee will also contribute to a range of administrative and expert duties within the University community. JOB DESCRIPTION The position covers research on the Russian language and related teaching. The successful candidate is expected to be a scholar of the Russian language with an international profile and demonstrable capacity for research leadership. The role requires a versatile language scholar who, in addition to specialist expertise in Russian, possesses skills aligned with the University’s strategic plan and the focus areas of the Department of Languages. Research experience in other Slavic languages will be considered an asset. The professor of Russian will conduct and supervise scholarly research and deliver teaching across the bachelor’s and master’s programmes in languages and the Doctoral Programme in the Humanities. The appointee will be responsible, alongside other teachers in the discipline, for advanced teaching in Russian language and literature. They must be able to deliver teaching informed by their own research, supervise doctoral and other theses as well as postdoctoral researchers, head research projects, and follow developments in scholarship. The role also includes administrative duties and public engagement. In addition, the professor is expected to contribute to other teaching in the Master’s Programme in Languages and other degree programmes, including shared methodological and theoretical provision across study tracks. APPOINTMENT CRITERIA The appointee must hold a doctoral degree and possess advanced academic qualifications, experience in leading scholarly research, the ability to provide research-based teaching and supervise theses, and evidence of international collaboration in their research field. Additionally, professors must possess academic leadership skills. The assessment of applicant merits considers both scholarly and teaching merits. The former include scholarly publications and other research results of scholarly value, success in obtaining external research funding, scholarly work outside Finland and international elected positions. The latter include teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce learning materials, additional teaching merits, a demonstration of teaching skills if required, and involvement in doctoral education. Also considered are applicants’ leadership and interaction skills and their active engagement in the academic and wider communities. Holders of teaching and research positions at Finnish universities must be proficient in the language in which they provide instruction, in this case Russian. To successfully perform their duties, the appointee must also have excellent English skills. SALARY The salary will be based on levels 8–10 of the job requirement scheme for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The position carries an annual salary of €80,500–€99,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications, and includes a six-month trial period.
