Since its inception in 1994, National Dong Hwa University has not only strived to fortify its campus infrastructure and carry out its teaching and research responsibilities, but it has also initiated a variety of educational programs for extensive community outreach in Eastern Taiwan. The main campus of NDHU, located 16 km south of Hualien city with an area covering more than 251 hectares (650 acres), is the largest flat land campus in Taiwan. Nestled between the Coastal Mountain Range and the Central Mountain Range in the verdant and pristine Papaya Creek Delta, the University is situated in a spectacularly beautiful natural environment.
As a knowledge provider and the breeding ground, NDHU offers a liberal environment, green campus and a wide range of research/innovation centers, catering to nearly 10,000 students coming from more than 50 countries around the world. The University offers various training and professional development opportunities that increase the availability of local human resources, it also shares many of its resources, such as the library and athletic and teaching facilities with schools in the local area. Many of the faculty members play an active role in local educational and cultural projects, lending their experience and guidance to a vast array of activities.

Join Our Team – Research Fellow Opportunity at the Optoelectronics Research Centre We are seeking a Research Fellow with a strong background in optical glass science and fabrication to join the EPSRC-funded PURE collaboration between the University of Southampton and the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). This role sits at the boundary between fundamental glass materials science and world-leading integrated photonics. The central goal is to fabricate and understand ultra-low-loss silica-based waveguides and ring resonators that push optical loss to the physical limits set by glass chemistry, deposition physics, and surface roughness. Who We’re Looking For We seek a talented research fellow with skills and knowledge to complement our team. You should be comfortable working in a lab environment with furnaces, deposition systems, cleanroom tools and optical characterisation equipment. Experience with integrated photonics or resonators is useful, but a deep understanding of glass and materials behaviour is more important. We are looking for someone who enjoys building things, measuring them properly, and then figuring out why they behave the way they do. About Us GKT School of Medical Education undertakes a significant – and growing - amount of educational partnership activity within the UK and overseas. Examples of this include the University of Portsmouth Branch Campus (work led by the MBBS Branch Campus Programme Director), and Consultancy and Capacity building work with Abdullah-Al-Salem University in Kuwait. About the role To support these and future ventures, we are now seeking a senior clinical medical educationalist with experience of partnership working, developing new UK programmes and understanding of the GKT approach to medical education. The successful candidate will work with new and existing partners to ensure high quality education, engaging meaningfully with GKT Directors to align processes and GKT approaches as needed and drawing upon additional expertise such as that in Faculty Development. The postholder will work closely with Faculty Education Services (FES) and university colleagues to ensure effective and timely implementation of partnership arrangements. While the focus of the work will be in the development of partnership educational programmes, the arc of projects of this sort will usually involve influence in business development and as projects evolve into business as usual.
