The Technological Institute of Aeronautics was founded in 1950 by Casimiro Montenegro Filho, a pilot in the Brazilian Army. In 1943 Casimiro travelled to the US and visited the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He returned to Brazil determined to create a similar institute that would train engineers and develop aeronautical technology. The university is maintained by the Brazilian Air Force and is one of five institutes that encompass the Brazilian General Command for Aerospace Technology (CTA). The CTA is the national military research centre for aviation and space flight. The university is located on the CTA grounds, which is in the city of São José dos Campos, São Paulo. The university offers six engineering undergraduate courses, which include aeronautical engineering, aerospace engineering, civil-aeronautical engineering, computer engineering, electronic engineering, and mechanical engineering. All undergraduate students at the university are granted full scholarships and boards for the entirety of their five-year course. There are also postgraduate programmes available specialising in aeronautics and mechanics, aeronautical infrastructure, electronics and computing, physics, and space science and technology. Brazil’s most populous city, São Paulo, is known for its vibrant nightlife, annual cultural events, and rich architecture. Its buildings include a neo-gothic cathedral, a colonial-style church and the 1929 Martinelli skyscraper. Throughout the year the city hosts events such as the São Paulo Jazz Festival, the Brazilian Grand Prix, and São Paulo Fashion Week. The city’s lively atmosphere attracts increasing numbers of tourists every year. In their spare time, students can explore the metropolis and soak up its rich Brazilian culture.

Job Summary The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for research that studies the interactions between biologicals (microorganisms, microbial signals) and crop plants, in the context of developing suitable crop inoculants for African smallholder farmers. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, have an agricultural background, and have completed a Ph.D. in Soil Science, soil microbiology, Plant Science or related fields. The selected Postdoctoral Fellow will be familiar with state-of-the-art techniques used to understand soil microbiology and microbial-plant interactions. This individual will have in-depth knowledge of the microbial-plant interactions in realistic soil environments that experience drought, salinity and other constraints. The department is growing and is looking to enhance its international competitiveness in this emerging area. We have active clinical and research programmes in understanding the immunobiology of haematological disease. The postholder will help develop their independent programme of research in molecular immunology to make a substantive contribution to KCL's portfolio of research in cell and gene therapeutics, focusing on haemato-oncology, and novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for haematology. This post will complement strengths at King’s Haematology including bone marrow failure, haematopoiesis, myeloid malignancies, lymphoma, hemoglobinopathies and gene therapy. The postholder will also develop collaborative research across the School of Cancer & Pharmaceutical Sciences (SCPS) and the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine (FoLSM). The postholder will also contribute to research training and the development and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate education programmes within the SCPS and FoLSM. This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract. About You To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: Essential criteria PhD in immunology, or haemato-oncology or a related subject. Track record of developing new knowledge and innovative research in immune haemato-oncology as evidenced, for example, by publications in high impact scientific journals and by invited presentations of research at international conferences. A track record of attracting competitive research funding in the relevant research area. Experience with cytometry platforms and multi-omics approaches.
