Your responsibilities will include: Supporting the key university process of programme and portfolio assessment and review, acting as the primary point of contact between the department and colleagues across both professional services and academic faculties. Contributing to the understanding of our student population using data analysis of a variety of information sources and sharing findings across several different mediums to senior audiences. Be the expert at the University on your areas of work, able to not only provide analysis but advise senior leaders ensuring decisions are being made effectively. About you We are looking for: You must be confident working with data and generating robust analysis and actionable insight from it with minimal supervision. You don’t need professional experience but you’ll be expected to hit the ground running and be producing high impact work from day one. You must be comfortable both presenting data and insight in several formats to meet the needs of a wide number of different audiences. Comfortable talking to nuance and context when providing predictive work. Able to work collaboratively and communicate and negotiate with senior stakeholders with confidence. An ability to influence others, use judgement and have excellent written and verbal communication skills to explain complex data to a range of audiences. Development of Novel Optical Fibres for Fibre Lasers Silica Fibre Fabrication Group, Optoelectronics Research Centre A Research Fellow position is available for a highly motivated and talented researcher with a strong interest in optical fibre technology to work on the UK’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funded Programme Grant, HiPPo (Smart Fibre optic High-power Photonics), and will involve collaboration with a wide range of researchers at the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) and external academic and industrial partners. A key goal of the project is to develop novel optical fibres and fibre materials suitable for the power scaling of fibre lasers. This project will make strong use of the fibre fabrication facilities at the ORC and your skills should reflect this, for example through strong practical laboratory experience. Applicants should have a PhD (or equivalent professional qualifications and experience) in Physics/Chemistry/Materials Science/Engineering and excellent experimental skills. Knowledge and hands-on experience in active-doped silica-based fibre fabrication, spectroscopic characterisation of doped fibres, and the construction and testing of fibre lasers and amplifiers would be beneficial for this position. You must have proven skills in the critical evaluation and interpretation of data and of working as part of a collaborative research team. The appointment will commence as soon as possible. The initial appointment will be until 28th February 2028 with the potential for further extension beyond this. Research Fellow, Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics

The University of Southampton is inviting applications for a postdoctoral position in gravitational-wave astronomy. The successful candidate will join Greg Ashton’s STFC-funded programme, Advancing Gravitational-Wave Astronomy Using Artificial Intelligence, to work on computational Bayesian inference methods and their astrophysical applications. Southampton's School of Mathematical Sciences is home to a large research group in gravitational physics, comprising 9 staff members, over 15 postdoctoral researchers, and approximately 15 PhD students. Research in the group includes black-hole and neutron-star physics, gravitational-wave source modelling and data analysis, gravitational self-force modelling and numerical relativity. The group is involved in the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, the LISA Consortium, the Einstein Telescope collaboration and the Cosmic Explorer consortium. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of research in gravitational-wave astronomy. The applicant will have, or be about to obtain, a relevant PhD degree in physics or mathematics. This is a full-time post, available from the 5th of January 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is funded for two years with the possibility of a 1-year extension.
