The College of Law, Governance and Policy brings together key areas of expertise in legal studies, public policy, health, public administration, governance, and related disciplines. The General Manager plays a critical leadership role, providing strategic and operational direction to support the College’s academic mission. Development of Novel Optical Fibres for Fibre Lasers Silica Fibre Fabrication Group, Optoelectronics Research Centre A Research Fellow position is available for a highly motivated and talented researcher with a strong interest in optical fibre technology to work on the UK’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funded Programme Grant, HiPPo (Smart Fibre optic High-power Photonics), and will involve collaboration with a wide range of researchers at the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) and external academic and industrial partners. A key goal of the project is to develop novel optical fibres and fibre materials suitable for the power scaling of fibre lasers. This project will make strong use of the fibre fabrication facilities at the ORC and your skills should reflect this, for example through strong practical laboratory experience. Applicants should have a PhD (or equivalent professional qualifications and experience) in Physics/Chemistry/Materials Science/Engineering and excellent experimental skills. Knowledge and hands-on experience in active-doped silica-based fibre fabrication, spectroscopic characterisation of doped fibres, and the construction and testing of fibre lasers and amplifiers would be beneficial for this position. You must have proven skills in the critical evaluation and interpretation of data and of working as part of a collaborative research team. The appointment will commence as soon as possible. The initial appointment will be until 28th February 2028 with the potential for further extension beyond this. Drive fundraising initiatives and build strategic relationships with key stakeholders nationally and globally. Oversee strategic and operational planning, including budget management. Champion student-centric approaches to enhance engagement, academic success, and well-being for students and faculty. Undertake responsibilities as assigned by the Aalto University Board and President, adhering to the school’s bylaws. Collaborate with university leaders to drive Aalto University's academic objectives. Qualifications and Expertise Required: Doctoral degree with an academic track record in a relevant field. Extensive leadership experience in academia and/or research institution/organization, ideally as a dean or in a comparable position in executive level. A commitment to advancing Aalto's unique interdisciplinary profile in technology, art, design, and business together with the school staff. Demonstrated ability to nurture national and international networks and strengthen stakeholder collaboration to boost school’s profile and visibility Proficiency in English, commitment to learn the basic communication in Finnish and/or Swedish is expected.
