The Irish Government has announced a €200 million (£136 million) shake-up in medical education. The changes include increasing the number of first-year places for Irish and European Union students from 305 to 725 and introducing a 60:40 split between undergraduate medical students and those on new graduate courses. Undergraduate courses are free in the republic, so the additional places should attract interest from elsewhere in the EU.
