Akita International University is a public university located in Akita City, Akita Prefecture, Japan. It was established in 2004 and modelled on the American liberal arts college. It is one of few universities in Japan that teaches all of its courses in English. The curriculum is divided into five categories: Japan studies, Japanese language, global business, global studies and global connectivity. Students can take both undergraduate and graduate programmes within these disciplines. The university offers foreign language courses in Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Russian, French, and Spanish. Undergraduate students are expected to study abroad for one year of their degree and non-native English speakers are provided with intensive English for academic purpose (EAP) programmes. The main campus is located within the city, accessible by public transport and less than 10 minutes from Akita airport. Across the street is a large sports complex for students which includes a gymnasium, tennis courts, athletic track field, cycling paths, archery fields, baseball diamonds, and weight training rooms.

Position Description and Selection Criteria: PD - Electronics Engineering Specialist-ANUO67 and 8.pdf The Position The Electronics Engineering Specialist will play a key role in designing, developing, testing, delivering, and commissioning advanced systems such as detector readout electronics, instrument control systems, and embedded hardware for ground-based astronomical instruments, telescopes, and civil space applications. This position supports ANU’s strategic objectives in astronomy and space by contributing to national and international research collaborations involving telescope instrumentation, satellite payloads, and spaceflight hardware. The role spans the entire engineering lifecycle—from requirements definition and circuit design through prototyping, testing, and deployment—and requires close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure systems meet performance, reliability, and compliance standards, including product assurance requirements. The Person To excel in this role, you will have Post graduate qualifications in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, or a relevant undergraduate degree with a minimum of four years’ experience in scientific or aerospace instrumentation or a relevant field. Demonstrated proficiency in two or more of the following technical areas: detector systems (e.g., CCD, CMOS, IR), instrument control electronics, analogue/digital circuit design, PCB layout, and embedded systems development. Demonstrated proficiency in coding skills in at least one of the following languages: Python, C, C++, MATLAB, HDL, and proficiency using tools and software such as Altium, Vivado, VHDL, and microcontroller environments. The Area The Advanced Instrumentation and Technology Centre (AITC) is a national facility in Canberra and part of the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA). The Centre was established to support the development of the next generation of instruments for astronomy and space science. Our staff have built specialised astronomical instruments for some of the world’s largest optical telescopes; we are currently designing and building instruments to be mounted on the next generation of extremely large telescopes. The School Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) operates Australia’s national optical observatory and has access to the world’s largest optical telescopes. We are based at the historic Mount Stromlo Observatory on the outskirts of Canberra. Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT Key Responsibilities Design and teach labs & practice modules Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Extensive experience and knowledge of nursing skills and industry practices to bring industry perspectives to SIT. Strong supervisory skills and enjoy working closely with students in an educational environment. Experience in simulation education will be an added advantage. Description The Research Center on Stability, Instability and Turbulence (SITE) a center of the Research Institute, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Post-Doctoral Associate to work in the fluid mechanics laboratory for experimental fluid dynamics.  SITE is inviting applications for fully-funded postdoctoral research associate positions. SITE is highly interdisciplinary and aims to develop novel enabling technology on hydrodynamic stability analysis that has applications in the study of the development of singularities, the long-time behavior of complex systems, the formation of spatial patterns, the transition between stability and instability, and the first steps of transition towards turbulence that appear in several disciplines across science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and innovation.
