Named for the founding father of Texas, Stephen F Austin State University is a 418 acre campus institution at Nacogdoches, a city to the east of the state. Chartered in 1923, its motto is ‘striving for personal excellence in everything that we do’.
Studies at SFA are divided between the Colleges of Business, Education, Fine Arts, Forestry & Agriculture, Liberal & Applied Arts, and Science & Mathematics. Within the graduate sectors there are 44 master’s degrees available, and doctorates in educational leadership, forestry, and school psychology.
SFA also offer a wide array of internships across courses. English and creative writing can get opportunities with literary journals RE:AL and Humid, and the SFA Press. The programme also has an ongoing ‘writers’ series’, which accommodates esteemed authors at the SFA campus. Those studying Government will get the chance to be involved in projects such as Moot Court and the Model UN, and the Texas Legislative Intern Program. For those studying Mass Communication, SFA also has a fully updated and interactive TV studio and radio station.
Athletics teams at SFA are known as the Lumberjacks in honour of the forestry industry that is key to the local economy, and compete in the NCAA Division I. There are six men’s sports programmes and nine women’s, including soccer, tennis, and volleyball. The football team play at the Bryce Stadium, and the stands and surrounding hill can seat a total of 25,000 people.
Annual events at SFA include the Homecoming bonfire, started by the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity, and Springfest, the concluding campus party of the spring semester.

Description We are inviting applications for a Post-Doctoral Associate in the Division of Social Science at NYU Abu Dhabi from individuals who have or will soon receive a PhD in demography, epidemiology, public health, or a related discipline in the social sciences. The appointment will begin September 1, 2026, subject to final budget approval and is available for up to three years. The post-doctoral associate will spend half their time on independent research, and half their time on collaborative research with Professor Stéphane Helleringer. The collaborative research will be on population health and its determinants in low-and-middle-income countries, with an emphasis on measurement issues and the impact of crises such as epidemics and disasters. The job entails conducting high-quality research on population health and its determinants in low-and-middle-income countries. This includes conceptualizing research questions, designing empirical studies, collecting or acquiring new data sets, and analyzing these data using advanced statistical models and visualization techniques. The job also emphasizes the dissemination of knowledge about population health, particularly through the preparation of peer-reviewed manuscripts, software packages and/or participation in international conferences. Candidates must hold a PhD in demography, epidemiology, public health or related discipline in the social sciences. The ideal candidate is preferred to have prior experience with data collection and collaboration in low-and-middle-income countries and good knowledge of R or other software for data management, analysis and visualization. The successful candidate will be involved in conducting applied and fundamental research, preparing competitive research proposals, and authoring technical reports and peer-reviewed scientific publications addressing key challenges in agricultural and livestock production systems. This position will involve research activities in animal production, including animal nutrition, forage crop valorization, feed and diet formulation, and rangeland management. Where appropriate, the candidate will design and conduct field surveys, collect and analyze data, and engage directly with farming communities.
