The University of Southampton is a research-intensive university on the south coast of England.

Founded in 1862 as the Hartley Institution, the University of Southampton was granted a royal charter by Queen Elizabeth II in 1952 in one of her first official acts as monarch.

Today the university has five campuses in Southampton, one in Winchester and another in Malaysia, and a student population of almost 25,000 students – a third of whom are international.

A founding member of the prestigious Russell Group of research-intensive universities, Southampton is a comprehensive university offering a choice of more than 300 degree programmes across a wide range of subject areas.

The university is at the forefront of pioneering cancer immunotherapy research, and its engineering research is pushing the boundaries of performance sport with the help of large-scale facilities such as wind tunnels and towing tanks.

Other centres of expertise include the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research, the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute, the Institute for Life Sciences, the innovative Optoelectronics Research Centre, the Zepler Institute – a multidisciplinary research centre for electronics, optics, nano and quantum technologies – and the Web Science Institute, pioneers of the worldwide web, open data and Internet of Things.

The University of Southampton actively helps student and staff start-up companies through its business incubators and Science Park. Over the years, the institution has also developed strong links with industry partners such as Microsoft, IBM and Philips.

The university is also a significant contributor to the regional and national economy.

Some of its most famous alumni include the BBC journalist and broadcaster Jon Sopel, Mercury Prize-nominated singer-songwriter Anna Calvi, BBC Radio One presenter Chris Stark and Formula One engineer Adrian Newey.

Applicants should possess a Master’s degree in public/global health or a related discipline; or MBBS and specialist qualification in Public Health Medicine or equivalent, and a minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience. Practitioners who have other bachelor's degree with extensive experience in the fields may also be considered. They should be highly conversant in contemporary issues about health sciences and global health, competent in case-based and problem-based teaching pedagogy, and able to work in an interdisciplinary and multicultural environment. The appointees will teach courses in medicine, public health, and/or global health and development; manage interdisciplinary health research projects; conduct problem-based learning and evidence-based practice tutorials; coordinate field investigations for public health courses; coordinate academic curriculum for MBBS/MPH modules; develop and teach common core courses; assist in research projects and publications; and undertake other teaching-related duties as assigned. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary. A Student Placement Opportunity for a Strength & Conditioning Coach at Surrey Sports Park, supporting the Lead S&C Coach with session planning, delivery, and relevant administration across Team Surrey, TASS and Dual Career athletes. You will also work synchronously with other members of the performance team to effectively manage athletes’ physical development and loading. The Role: The student S&C Coach will be responsible for managing their own athlete caseload, under direct supervision. Training and development, plus formal mentorship opportunities will also be provided to support university assignments and career progression. Placement students are expected to be flexible, with considerable work in late evenings and early mornings during athletic seasons. The student will work closely with other sports therapists, S&C coaches, sharing the assessment, programmes, and rehabilitation of athletes during a training week. The student coach will be expected to liaise with the whole MDT to discuss progress and advise on playing and/or training time. The student will have autonomy; however, should consult with the Lead S&C Coach before finalising any decisions regarding exercises, management, and/or loading strategies. The role will involve developing coaching style, administrative and communication skills that are required in the field of S&C. This will include using technology, platforms and apps that are used on a day to day basis for athlete and data management. The ability to think critically about coaching problems and immersing yourself in practical coaching experiences will be fundamental to this role. The student will be forward thinking and encouraged to express ideas on how to develop and improve the delivery of S&C across the Sports Park. This will include attending weekly performance team meetings to share knowledge, review exercises, report on injuries, and discuss on-going issues that will improve the working relationship within the performance team.
