The go-ahead for a university to be built in Texas was first given in 1839, but a series of set-backs meant the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) was not established until almost a half century later. It was 1883 when UT Austin first opened its doors, with one building, eight professors and 221 students.

Today, UT Austin is a world-renowned higher education, research-intensive institution, serving more than 51,000 students annually with a teaching faculty of around 3,000.

It comprises 18 top-ranked colleges and schools, 17 libraries, seven museums and one 307-foot tower – the most iconic building on campus. 

Possessing a creative and entrepreneurial spirit, as well as a strong community focus, the university states its core purpose as being "to transform lives for the benefit of society".

UT Austin has an alumni numbering close to half a million individuals. Among them are the award-winning actors Matthew McConaughey and Marcia Gay Harden, film director Robert Rodriguez, and journalists Bill Moyers and Walter Cronkite.

With Austin being the ‘Live Music Capital of the World’, students can take advantage of a multitude of arts and cultural opportunities on campus and in the wider locale. More than 200 music venues exist in the city, as well as a thriving film scene and year-round sunshine.

Several global tech companies (Apple, Samsung and IBM among them) have major operations in the area and Austin is, according to Forbes magazine, one of the country’s best cities for tech startups. 

The university is also home to one of the largest college stadiums in the US. Its football teams, known as the Longhorns, are represented by a mascot called Bevo, a Longhorn steer that is said to embody the pride and tradition of Texas football.

Description The Micro- and Nanoscale Bioengineering Lab (MNBL) at New York University Abu Dhabi is seeking to recruit a research assistant to study various human diseases using an organ/organoid-on-a-chip approach. Applicants with a strong background in designing and fabricating microfluidic devices and cell culture are encouraged to apply. Research in the MNBL focuses on designing and fabricating microphysiological systems to study various diseases affecting multiple human organs in vitro. Our project involves collaborations with the faculty of Bioengineering and Biology at NYUAD. Responsibilities of the position include growing cells in organ-on-a-chip microfluidic devices, characterizing them using downstream analysis such as bioimaging and omics analysis, and testing new potential drugs on these cells. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment comprising PhD-level scientists, graduate students, and undergraduate students, thereby acquiring valuable skills in writing manuscripts and establishing collaborations across disciplines. Applicants must hold a B.S. degree in the engineering field. They must also have excellent cell biology expertise; multi-year experience of handling cells with microfluidic devices is essential. Have a degree in Food Science and Technology, or Analytical Chemistry. Possessing a Master's or PhD degree will be advantageous Experience and Knowledge of operating HPLC, MALDI-TOF and Q-TOF Mass spectrometry for protein sequencing, carbohydrate/Sugar analysis, and polyphenol identification. Previous experience as lab-in-charge or equipment-in-charge will be advantageous. Able to communicate with industrial collaborators to share key findings, seek supports, or conducting commercial trials. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety, and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.

Description The newly established NYUAD Wireless Research Center at New York University Abu Dhabi is seeking a highly qualified and motivated Research Scientist (RS) to lead the experimental development of cognitive omni-band wireless systems for 6G and beyond. The successful candidate will be jointly supervised by Mahmoud Rasras and Murat Uysal and will work in close collaboration with other researchers at both the New York and Abu Dhabi campuses. Principal Responsibilities The RS will design, implement, and validate custom optical wireless communication (OWC) testbeds operating at visible light (VL) and infrared (IR) wavelengths. The RS will serve as a system architect for the omni-band wireless testbed, overseeing the development of RF testbeds for sub-6 GHz, cmWave, mmWave, and THz bands, and ensuring seamless integration with OWC testbeds to enable omni-band experimentatio The RS is expected to disseminate results through publications in high-impact journals and presentations at leading international conferences. The RS is expected to contribute to intellectual property development through patent filings and participate in international standardization efforts relevant to wireless technologies in coordination with academic and industrial collaborators. The RS will represent NYUAD Wireless at major academic, industry, and policy-oriented events and contribute to strengthening its visibility and engagement with global research and innovation ecosystems. Qualifications Applicants must hold a PhD degree in electrical/electronics engineering, telecommunications or related field. Other requirements including: Minimum 5 years of postdoctoral or industrial experimental research experience in optical and/or wireless communication systems, RF/optical system prototyping, and SDR testbed development. Ability to use various electronic and optical measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, arbitrary waveform generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, optical powermeter, optical spectrum analyzer, beamshape analyzer, spatial light modulators etc Demonstrated expertise in end-to-end RF/optical transceiver design Experience in system modeling (Simulink, ADS, CST) Strong background in DSP for physical layer design Hands-on experience with commercial SDR platforms (e.g., NI USRP) Proven track record of publications in relevant IEEE journals and conference Work experience within multi-disciplinary teams across RF, optics, and systems.
