Brussels, 25 Feb 2003

A workshop funded by the European Commission under the safer Internet action plan, to be held in Luxembourg on February, will look at the issue of quality labels for websites.

The programme in comparative media law and policy (PCMLP), Oxford University, is carrying out work on quality labels as part of activities under the Commission funded selfregulation.info project.

The agenda of the workshop will include a discussion of existing quality labels and trustmarks in the field of e-commerce. Commission initiatives will be presented, such as the communication on quality criteria for health related websites.

The input from this event will help PCMLP design and implement a pilot project.

This workshop presents an opportunity to compare a variety of self-regulatory initiatives which have a common desire to increase user empowerment by providing reliable information about transactions and content.

The event is aimed at content providers, those running content rating and trustmark schemes, policy-makers and administrators in the area of protection of minors, and consumer, family welfare and children's rights organisations.
