Researchers active in sustainable development and operators of ecosites will meet in Doncaster, UK on 10 December to discuss the contribution of such centres to research and development implementation in the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6).and the support ecosites can provide as partners in FP6 sustainable development research projects.

Ecosites are environmental research and technology demonstration centres which combine environmental innovation and testing facilities, an environmental/scientific business park, 'green' technology demonstration and training and environmental education with local sustainable development.

Ecosites are active in fields such as water treatment, forest management and renewable energies, and are tools for locally testing, implementing and adapting FP6 sustainable development research, offering a bridge between researchers, small and medium sized enterprises and local authorities.

Ecosite development is specifically mentioned in the FP6 priority 'Strengthening the foundations of the European Research Area' and in the mandate for activities of the EU's Joint Research.
